I've just come back from seeing The Illusionist. In all, it was pretty good - gorgeous setting, lovely music and a photography to die for - but... it's missing something. Dunno, but it's not as good, or as intriguing, as it could have been, and some characters (especially Sophie) were one-dimensional through the entire thing. *sigh* I liked it though, and I'm still trying to decide whether I feel cheated by the ending or not. *shrug* That shot with Edward Norton and the Orange tree, though... so beautiful.
Now, let's talk books: I finished The Perfume on Thursday. The ending is compltely disturbing and horrifying and so. Damn. Good. Gruesome much, though? The country would be in chaos if this book was an assignment for school, though. Anyway, I liked it. Not my favorite books of all times, or anything, but still good.
I also just finished reading Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman, since I'd been taking my sweet time with it. WOW. Some stories were okay, some were blah, some were downright amazing. My favorite stories were: The White Road, Looking for the Girl, One Life, Furnished in Early Moorcock, and Snow, Glass, Apples which was such a great way to put an end to the book. Also, this one gave me the creeps.
I'm starting with Isabel Allende's new book, Inés del Alma Mía (Inés of my Soul). Dunno. I used to worship this author, and she's still one of my favorites, but... her latest books haven't been all that great. Especially since she's basing them from real (or almost real) people, and telling them in first person. I miss her House of Spirits days.
