It was Cinema Weekend these few days for me, which, you know, WIN.

There's a French cinema tour this week, and I went to see Paris yesterday with my dad, where a painfully obnoxious lady yelled at us to be silent. O-kay. Anyway, it was an incredibly charming movie, superbly shot and uplifting and it made for a quite gorgeous film, about the lives of several Parisians, seen through the eyes of a young sick man waiting for a heart transplant. The music, also, was wonderful. In a way, as a love letter to the city, it works even better than Paris, je t'aime (and I love that film), since it's more cohesive as a story.

Right after that one we had to run to another cinema, to watch ArrĂ¡ncame La Vida, which apparently is the most expensive Mexican movie to date. Bah, color me unimpressed. I mean, it's a decent enough film, and it can have some pretty gorgeous photography at times, but in the whole it's a very simple story, and there's a lot of gratuitious nudity. So yeah, it's pretty entertaining and it's good enough, but it certainly won't be getting any awards any time soon. (it's too cheesy for that.)

And then today I saw The Other Boleyn Girl, which surpassed my expectations, mostly because I was convinced it was going to be bad. But it wasn't! It's still not a master piece (the editing, for example, leaves something to be desired - it became way, way too fast-paced near the end), but it was really pretty looking, especially with all those gorgeous wide shots and nice wardrobe, and Natalie Portman's acting was quite remarkable. It's interesting, though, that the film was really driven by the women, and Henry, especially, tended to fade into the background. So yeah, I liked it quite a bit.
