I'm reading The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafón at the minute, and it's been a bit of a dissappointment, because it's nowhere, nowhere near as good as The Shadow of the Wind. It's falling into a bazillion cliches and the characters are all annoying and melodramatic. It seems like the author couldn't decide whether the novel he was writing was fantasy, horror, gothic romance, a murder mystery, a detective story or historical fiction, so he just threw it all together and hoped for the best. I'm not saying such a combination can't work, because I know it can, but it definitely fell short on this case.

It's weird, because I can remember the sense of wonder that Daniel gave off, he was such an appealing character in a simple way, and yet David just makes me want to hit things. oh well.

Technically, this is book 50 of the year, but I'm reading Belle de Jour's Diary of an Unlikely Call Girl for the laughs (and the sex. almost five months without, people, I'm in pain.), and I have the feeling I'll finish that first. SIGH.

On other news, my birthday's on sunday and I've no idea what I'll do. 22 feels way too grown up. Can I keep the presents and the 21? pretty please?
