I'm having a bit of a Sandman re-read at the minute, and oh, how do I love it. I think this will always be my favorite comic book. ♥ it's strange, though - I'm not reading it in order, started on volume 6, went through 2, 3, 4, and just read volume 1, and it changed so much over the years. I hadn't re-read the first volume probably in years, and it remains the most choppy-feeling one, like Neil was just kicking his strike. (also, the art was sort of appalling, to be honest) Weird that vol. 2 is as good as it is, but that one already feels just like Sandman, and not like anything else. And well, as fun as it is to see a cameo of Batman, I'm glad it finally evolved as its own universe. It's big and complex enough as it is, it wouldn't have worked if it had to sustain another big and complex universe such as DC one.
A small confession: I haven't read Neil's lasto foray into comics yet. It's just. Mmm. Batman is a hard book to follow, especially with RIP and all the time travelling and super-boy killing it's been indulging on as of lately, so. (all right, so maybe they didn't kill Kon in Batman. Whatever, it still made Tim cry for his secret boyfriend.) Has anyone? Is it any good?
