Heh, I invented it when I was dumb and young - I must have been around 15, and desperate to be kewl and ~kawaii~. I was really into anime (secretly), so I wanted something that sounded Japanese, although for some reason actual Japanese words weren't enough for me. I still have a notebook with lots of other options for usernames, because I wanted something really cool for my daily trips to the HP Latino forums, and, eventually, the Witch Hunter Robin ones.

In my head, it's pronounced the way it would be pronounced in Spanish if it was a proper word: Neh-KAH-Reh. I even botched that, because if it was Japanese it'd be something like NEH-Ka-Reh.

I've grown really fond of my username though - I had to, after 8 years! - I like that it's one word only, and that it can be used as a name, and that, I supposed, it's completely mine, even if a reminder of my dumb teenage years :D I don't think I'd ever change my username here in LJ, it wouldn't feel like, well, me.

Really, really interesting video about the depiction of women in the media, and how it creates an ideal of a weak, mindless, silent and highly sexualized woman, not to speak of incredibly thin and worthless if not beautiful in a standard that few if not any woman can meet. Well worth the watch.
