Woke up at nine today. And, um. Japanese class starts at nine. *headdesk* I didn't really want to explain myself to Kishi sensei, (he'd make me do it in Japanese, *shudder*) I just waited and went at eleven, when the second class starts.

My brother was forced coerced by school into going to the Mariachi festival in town, and my parents tagged along for the food because they're such fine parents. *cough* I stayed, because I've homework to do (which I'm not doing) and because I wanted to see a movie. Because I can monopolize my parent's HBO when alone.

So, I watched Collateral on TV, and man, that was some good movie! It kept me at the edge of my scene during the entire thing, and who would've known, Tom Cruise didn't arse the acting. The lighting and music? Reaaaal good too. Nice acting from Jamie Foxx too, and some rather good dialogue.

Then, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights was showing, and well. I saw it. *hides* It was kinda blah, but I'm a dancer, so I'll forever like dancing movies, however horrible they are. And well. DIEGO LUNA. Must I say more? His Cuban accent is so, so, so, so cute. Yum. And a little ago, I read in an interview that 'dancing scenes had been much more difficult for him than kissing Gael García Bernal en Y Tu Mamá También. *uses icon* God, I love that man. (The ending of the movie was pretty bad, though.)

And because my life is built out of casualities, it seems, I'm downloading Criminal with Diego too right now, although I really want to see the original version from Argentina. (as [livejournal.com profile] onadancefloor has recced me).

Er, sorry if my journal has been so movie-monopolized as of lately, but I'm suddenly getting to see all this cool stuff after a while of having naught, so I'm kinda in a frenzy. *looks shifty*

Word on Collateral, even if I didn't like the ending. Tom Cruise's best movie in what, 10,15 years? (Reminds me of doing a Miami Vice review.)

I actually liked the last shot a lot, although yeah, they got too close emotionally, something pretty difficult to actually happen. Definitely, even if I gotta be honest and confess to seeing all mission impossible movies *shifty eyes* you gotta turn off your brain sometimes....

Was it any good? I didn't want to see it, since it sounded so very Hollywood to me, but then I heard some good reviews, and got confused.

Well, as for review: I won't tell. I want everybody in the whole world to read my review, which is mostly written on a small, 10cm x 20 cm piece of paper, which I borrowed from a waitress, almost directly after the movie, while waiting for my parents to get back from the wine testing they visited.

In short? It's attractive. It isn't wholesome. But oh-so-very-attractive.

MI:1 was cool, unless you think about what they did to Phelps, for which I honestly wish someone would anally rape the author. (I LIKED Phelps. And I'm seriously disturbed by his movie incarnation.)

MI:2 was directed by John Woo, and another sign of "Oh my God, I'm in Hollywood, now I have to suck." I want my Hard Boiled/A Better Tomorrow-Woo back. *sniffs*

MI:3 I have ignored, since a) Tom Cruise was getting *seriously* on my nerves by then and b) I was warned that it sucks big time.

//WARNING: SPOILER
As for Collateral: Yes, the last shot was cool; but what was disturbing was the finale, the final confrontation, and its outcome. One of my best friends, who was in the cinema with me (we've got a car pool, so we often watch movies together; it's cheaper.), commented with "If [Cruise and Foxx] would've killed each other, it would have been a great movie. If Cruise had killed Foxx and the girl, it would have been a courageous movie. So, it's good, but not exceptional.
I have to agree.
