We were talking about how the first human popped out in Africa and how light eyes and fair skin are recesive genes and how must likely, the first human was black, because it's, genetically, the stronger race. And then someone brought God into the equation. And how He created us in his image. And we started thinking.

Koala: ... So that means God is black?
All of us: .... OMG TOTALLY.
Me: He's probably just rainbow-colored!
Kozty: ... OMG HE'S GAY?
Aidee: Well he did make Adam first! *all of us burst out laughing*
Juan Pablo: But He doesn't have sex!
All of us: ... *thinking of the implications in the worst way possible*
All of us: OMG HE'S SO HAVING SEX.
Me: *thinking* OMG I'M SO GOING TO HELL.

And then we played Risk and got our Machiavellic groove going on and we watched Kill Bill Vol.1 and we went to a comic store and I got Fables vol. 3 and 4 and Death Note vol. 4 and stuffed ourselves with pizza. Good times.

Today, though, The Pippettes played in town in this huge indie rock festival. And I didn't go. After weeks of trying to decide whether I should or should not to. It was from 3PM to 3AM, though, and it was outside the city in the middle of NOWHERE and I didn't know where it was or how to get there or how to get back. *sigh* But I kinda really wanted to go and a friend had been prodding me for weeks to convince me to go. But Placebo's playing in a few weeks and I better much rather going to see them. Boo.

There are two kinds of labels I hate: 'Foreign' in movies, and 'Latin' in music. Foreign because HELLO, most of the world's population don't live in the US. And all of American fils are foreign to me, and to a whole lot more people, and it just seems rude to have this blanket label to call everything that's not filmed in the US. I certainly don't go around calling movies 'foreign', I just say oh, it's German, or Spanish, or Australian or WHATEVER, say it like it is.

And in music, I so so so hate it when they call everything that comes from south the US border 'Latin'. Sure, there are tons of music that was born in Latin America, but they have a name, like, say; samba, tango, salsa, son, banda, etc, etc. Again, it has a name - use it. But other than that, I hate it whenever I open iTunes and I see Zoé labled as 'Latin', because God forbid people could actually think a Mexican band can play alternative electro rock. There is a reason why we have all kinds of names for musical genres, and just because it wasn't made in an English-speaking contry doesn't mean it can't belong to them - there must be HUNDREDS of death metal bands in China, which I'm sure don't fit under 'traditional chinese music'. 'Latin' is not even a proper way of calling Samba and Danzon, because they sure as hell are nothing alike. I just really dislike the assumption that everything can be called the same, just by merit of its location.

The thing about the "foreign" label for movies, at least in certain comms on LJ has to do with the need to keep the number of tags down, because LJ only allows a small number of tags, which has led to communities being shut down in the past. Too, although most of the world's population doesn't live in the U.S., the business of most communities on LJ is conducted in English with a heavy English-language membership base. Further, while there are some films and tv series made available through certain communities that are in languages other than English, the number of these items pales in comparison with the number of English-language media available. Would "non-english-language" be a less offensive term for you? Or would that bother you as much as "foreign" or "foreign-language"?

I tend to feel like most producers cater to their consumers. If iTunes doesn't have many people specifically seeking out Samba, then they probably aren't going to devote any time for creating an infrastructure that supports a variety of genres in the Spanish language. But, again, if it's supposed to be a language category and not a musical genre, then maybe "Spanish-language" would be a better label than "Latin". Even so, though, alt rock bands of any language shoudl be listed under Alternative Rock, the language should just be an extra category beyond genre, if they really want to make their site most functional. Like, I like French-language rap/hip-hop, so I should maybe be able to check a ticky box for French and another for hip-hop, so that the search will actually find me something I want to listen to.

No, non-english would be so much better, actually. Dunno, don't take me that seriously, these subjects tend to rile me up unecessarilly...

I wasn't around much since I'm spending so much time with my boyfriend. *grin*
But I'm doing okay.
Studying is a little weird because I'm not really happy with it. I think about applying for psychology in October. I could quit now or in summer.
Quitting now means I had to wait a semester which is good in Germany because if you wait (without studying) your grade point average improves.
But if I don't quit now I'm still at Uni and still have my university place. Because there's no guarantee that I'll get the place for psychology. (Even if I have good chances.)
I don't know what to do... I'm so undecisive it annoys me. :/

And how have you been doing. ;)

I always crack up when I see the 'latin' label on my zen. I always have to think of some slimeballs when I read this. This is just as bad as 'world music'. Uhhhh
