Well, I didn't get to see OotP again today because they changed the schedules at the last minute, boo. I did, however, got to re-watch 300 with my brother, and boy, but my love for that one is still strong.
I'm watching Howl's Moving Castle right now, and really, now that I think about it, the Potter movies really do fare well as book adaptations go, I mean -- as enchanting as Miyazaki's film is (because it's Miyazaki, and he can do no wrong in my eyes), it's nowhere near the sheer awesomeness that the book is (then again, HMC is one of my favorite books, so...). Howl isn't nearly enough of an asshole, Sophie isn't nearly enough of a nosy bully and the With of the Waste isn't nearly enough of an evil bitch. That's not ever saying anything about Michael suddenly being turned into a six year old in desperate need of Ritalin and the scarecrow being all happy-happy, and the way they pulled a World War II-esque plot out of their asses and DID I MENTION THERE'S NO DRUNKEN, RUGBY PLAYING HOWL WHICH IS SUCH A DISSAPPOINTMENT?
Er, now it sounds like I hate the movie, don't I? No, I do like it, it's got fantastic music and a lovely feeling to it that makes me smile and smile and well, Miyazaki did wanted to turn it into a more him movie, instead of a Diana Wynn Jones one. (which reminds me that if any of you want to buy some book of hers for my birthday I'd love you forever and ever because they're impossible to get in here and I never seem to manage to find them when I go to the US, pleaaaaase? *puppy eyes*)
*cough* Okay, now I'll go and finish the movie. *shifty eyes*

Second, I have to agree with the adaptation of "Howl's Moving Castle" After I read the book I couldn't stop thinking how different the book was from the movie. Having said that, I think I watched an interview where they said that Miyazaki wrote the screenplay having decided that he would not make it similar to the book. Obviously, since not much is the same except for the characters. I enjoyed Howl in the book far more than in the movie. I also loved the ending in the book when Howl and Sophie fall in love, it's such a cute scene!

But I completely agree. I've been told the war plot has more to do with the sequal to HMC, and that Miyazaki (totally with you on the "can do no wrong" thing) did some pick-and-mixing, but I haven't read it so I can't be sure.
The reason for war, as I understand it, is completely illogical as well. His son's disappeared. Why not mount a search party? The King's an idiot. Why is there not... an uprising or something because innocent people are being killed.
Or I just haven't understood the angle.
;3; I was more beat-up because of Howl's total lack of a Welsh accent (that and the English voice actor was far too masculine), and... a whole lot of other stuff that you're bound to have picked-up on so I really needn't go into.
x3 Just so it's not completely random, my email's chaitealatte@hotmail.co.uk, if you ever want to talk Miyazaki.
