Well, I finished New Moon yesterday night. I did have a few laughs at the ending, but for the most part, I'm torn between liking the tone of the book and hating it from the awful characters. So.

While the plots have never been the author's fort, this one was a bit better than Twilight. Because, you know, stuff actually happens, and such. Still, plot-wise, this is incredibly weird -- Victoria never felt like a real threat, and all her purpose was to bring the sexy werewolves back, for which I'M OH SO THANKFUL, HONEST, but still. She was there and then she wasn't and no one gave a shit. How awesome.

Then Edward succumbs to his melodramatic tendences and decides to go off to Italy to die a shiny death. Or something. Volterra was surprisingly wonderful, actually, barring Edward and his wangst, because the other vampires luring turists and the screaming was quite, quite chilling. The sense of urgency, too, was incredible.

And then there's Jacob. Who is, no doubt, the best bestest character in the entire series. ♥ ♥ ♥ I like the Cullens, but Jacob has my heart. The rest of the werewolves were also great, and the fact that they're just playful teenagers is so very cute.

The moment Edward said he'd been even worse than Bella in dealing with the break up made me want to HIT SOMETHING, omg, because really, how can you be worse than the stupid girl that became a living zombie and that went suicidal because omg her twu wub left her!!1!. *eyeroll* But I've already ranted a lot about that. I do hope Bella (and her nickname makes me lol, too, I very much prefer Charlie's 'Bells' because it sounds normal) will buy a brain in Eclipse. Which I'm probably starting today. *cough*

AND REALLY, IS ANYONE SURPRISED THAT STEPHENIE MEYER LISTENED TO MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE IN REPEAT WHILE WRITING THIS BOOK? I SURE AS HELL AM NOT.

You Marched in Like Big Gusts of Wind by anythingbutgrey, Twilight, Bella/Jacob, PG. Some nights she still dreams Edward leaves her again. Those dreams hurt just as much as the Jacob ones, though, and that’s when she knows. Spoilers up to New Moon.

I stumbled across some Bella/Jacob recs today, and went starry eyed. Because oh man, this is what Twilight could be written by competent authors, and it feels painfully real. Wonderful fic, in which Bella finally grows up and grows a brain. Hell, even Edward/Bella would be amazing in the hands of good writers. So feel free to rec me, flist, I'd really appreciate it.
