Just Came to Say Hi (Anansi Boys fic, gen)
Thanks to the goodness of both
jeanne_dark and
teffers, I'm all caught up on Runaways now.
While it certainly is quite fresh and new, it could do with a lot of work. The characters are a bit to stereotypical, but for the most part, they're quite well developed (the exception being someone I rant about in the cut), and interesting. Still, the story's enthralling (I stayed up until 3AM last night because I had to finish it), and for the most part, the writing's decent.
The art goes from BRILLIANT to meh to decent to good, something that my inner manga-freak is still having trouble to accept. I do have to say that I LOVE the ways mouths are drawn in this. It creates quite a range of expressions, and it looks loooovely. Chase's my favorite Runaway, dunno why, maybe because he's the only one that doesn't really fit in the group, the only 'normal' one, and yet he doesn't let it get him down. Gert is awesome. Too awesome. And so is her pet. Karolina may be emo sometimes, but her flashy flashy looks make up for it XD Molly is a sweetheart.
Nooooo why couldn't Nico die instead?? Whyyyyy? Gert was my second favorite character ;____; She was so cool and she believed in a better world and didn't believe in conformity. *sigh*
And Nico's like, annoying as hell. I've tried to make myself like her, but the best I can do is appreciate her a bit. Maybe if she'd became TEH KEWL GOTH!11eleventy! after finding out about her parents, instead of being all "All I can think is about death" omg "PROFOUND" and wanting to cut herself when she'd lived her whole life as a rich, loved, pretty kid. Whatever can you complain about?
Anyway, I'm loving where this is heading, the way it's becoming kinda darker and Chase if (finally!) getting some more screen time (so to say), although I digged Chase/Gert real hard, so. I'm SAAAAAAD. I was quite tempted to buy both of the volumes today at the comic store, but I'd already gotten The Sandman's 8th volume, Stardust's graphic novel (I only had the book before), Fables vol 1 and xxxHolic's 7th tankubon, sooo. My budget was running kinda low already *g*

Anansi Boys - Written for

teffers as a thank you gift 343 Words-
When Charlie’s father comes back from the grave on a sunny April morning, he should probably be more surprised.
As it is, his only reaction is a muted “Huh.”
“Well?” says his father with arms wide open, standing in the doorway. “No hugs and kisses your old man?”
“I thought you were going to stay dead for a little longer,” Charlie says, rubbing his chin.
“Yes well, death turned out to be frightfully boring.”
He smiles, all bright teeth, and Charlie’s son yells excitedly, “Cool! My grandpa’s a zombie!”
----
It’s only proof of his wife’s remarkable character that Daisy offers his father coffee instead of trying to flash her badge and throw the undead man outside her home.
She does stare a lot, though.
“So, any news of the other world?” Charlie says, and it doesn’t really surprise him to know his father’s been taking Mrs. Dunwiddy out for drinks steadily for the last few years. Apparently, they had become quite close, that with them being grave buddies, and everything.
Marcus has been pulling on his grandfather’s sleeve for a half an hour already, trying to get his attention and asking all kinds of questions about brain-eating. Charlie suspects he doesn’t want to know.
“If you don’t mind me asking, Mr. Nancy, how exactly did you, uh, resuscitate yourself?” Asks Daisy after a while, probably after she’s already calculated how much strength it’d need to bring her father-in-law down.
Charlie’s dad grins. “That’s circumstantial, my dear, circumstantial.” He grab’s one of Daisy’s hands between his, and kisses it. “Now, sweet, wouldn’t you be interested in a romantic walk down the beach?”
Charlie steps on his foot.
“Ow! Alright, alright, I get it already.” His father starts to rub his foot theatrically. “No respect to one’s elders these days.”
They finish their coffees. Marcus cajoles his grandfather into playing with him. Daisy points how much he looks like his father, and Charlie snorts.
Right before he gets dragged to his grandson’s room, Anansi points to one of the shelves. “Is that a lime?"
