I saw Rushmore yesterday, and it was pretty rocking. I don't know why it took me so long to watch it, I mean, I love Wes Anderson! I love Jason Schwartzman! There's no way I wouldn't like it. In all, I still think The Royal Tenenbaums is Anderson's best work (although The Darjeeling Limited is close), but this one was just charming. Max Fisher is a precocious and weird 15 year old that falls in love with a first grade teacher - much to hers and and Max's friends chagrin. Jason Schwartzman was wonderful in this - his height helps, but he really looks like a teenager, and Bill Murray gave a solid perfomance, like usual. I don't know, I really liked it, as weird and wacky as it is. Funny and heartbreaking at the same time.

I also saw I Am Legend in the cinema this weekend. I really liked the first half, it was creepy and convincing and Will Smith managed to convey all the insanity that must come with being completely alone. ... And then the last half hour or so happened. I don't know, I think they tried to cram way too much in too short a time, and the zombie vampires or whatever they were just didn't look scary anymore. Too bad, because, like I said, the first part was remarkably good. The thing is, the movie left too much to the imagination - how the plague hit and such is never truly explained, so it was a bit like '...wait, what?' all the time. I have to say, though, the shots of a deserted New York are amazing, and it manages to make open, sunny spaces creepy. The premise is just incredibly intriguing, but I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic stuff, so it doesn't come as a surprise, lol. Now I have a craving to watch 28 Days Later again, mmm... THE DOG, THOUGH. THE DOG WAS THE BEST PART OF THE WHOLE DAMN MOVIE.

Anyway, I read the book on the same day, and ended up even more confused. There's parts that work better in the book and parts that work better in the movie, but in all, it's hard to believe the movie is based on it, they're way too different. The vampires were so very non-threatening in the book, which wouldn't have worked in film at all. I liked the ending. So didn't like Robert Neville, though. IN HERE, TOO, THE DOG WAS THE BEST PART.

I want a puppy, yes, why do you ask?

mmm, I agree completely about I Am Legend. I really liked the first half too; I thought the cinematography was great and the shots of NYC, with all the empty cars and the overgrown grass, just still sunny and just... so bare, really gave me the creeps. I thought the zombies/whatever were much creepier when you didn't see them as much, because after a while, they sort of lost that shock factor and sort of looked like melted wax figures. And there was definitely too much crammed into the end, I wish they had taken their time or done something different, idk how I feel about it yet, even though I saw it like... two months ago, lol. I really want to read the book, just to see the comparison between the two - it's interesting that you say they're very different, so I want to check that out.

AND I AGREE, THE DOG WAS EXCELLENT AND I MAYBE CRIED SOMETIMES DURING THE MOVIE, I WILL ADMIT.

Yeah, that first sequence with Robert walking in the complete darkness, looking for Sam the Cutest Dog Ever? They honestly creeped the fuck out of me. and by the end it was just 'ah, it's only those weird CGI thingies again, bah'.

here's the book! (http://www.mediafire.com/?3dc1tznka19)

I CRIED MY EYES OUT WHEN SHE DIED. OMG. SO SAD.

HEY YOU :-D

I have to write an essay on a chosen topic for my Spanish class (and also do an oral presentation for my teacher)... and I've chosen Zoé as my topic. (Latin music was one of the categories we could use... so of course that was my pick. ;))

I was just wondering if you knew of any fansites or such where I could get some biographical info, pictures, etc.? It's kind of difficult to find Spanish-language websites when I have everything set to English. I'm gonna do some googling, but I knew you'd be the best person to ask for directions. :)

Also: I WANT A PUPPY TOO. We could adopt one together and share custody, y/y??

Mmm, let's see... (you'll probably get the same results, though - I don't usually go to Zoé sites all that much, but I'll ask a friend that usually keeps up with them more than I do. :))

Here's the official page (http://www.zoetheband.com/), to start, then a fan site (http://zoefans.com/), which has all of their videos minus the last one (the one directed by the drummer, incidently) as a plus, and jackpot, a fan forum (http://www.rocanlover.net/foro/). Let's see if your eyes don't bleed from the 1337 in Spanish, lol.

... and that's all I can find, woe. There should totally be a Zoé community in LJ. Who would post on it, I don't know. But it'd be awesome.

That puppy will get a lot of mileage, huh? XD Yessssss, puppy.

Have you ever seen Bottle Rocket? It's not Anderson's best movie, but I think it's my favorite:D

I've actually just downloaded it a couple of days ago, but haven't had the time to see it yet. :)

YAY RUSHMORE!

yeah, I Am Legend was just okay. Cool to see in the theater, though - the sounds really popped. I totally didn't like the CGI for the animals but for the vamps it worked in that not-human way.

SAM!!!!

I also liked Fred the mannequin. Fred has many fans.

Haven't read the book, but I did see some of the Vincent Price movie version and it was odd.

I actually totally thought the deer were real but the lion kinda phoney, lol. So the animals worked for me, but the vamps made me laugh a bit, so....

Fred managed to creep the fuck out of me, haha. (and THAT'S one of the other things that didn't get enough screentime - I mean, they were LEARNING, they were regaining human thought in a way and ARGH. I wanted that explanation, damnit.)

Here's the book! (http://www.mediafire.com/?3dc1tznka19) Pretty short, too, only about 97 pages in .pdf. o_O

hee thanks. Icon's by [livejournal.com profile] delleve.

and thanks for the book! I had borrowed it from the library, but never got around to reading it...

Oh, I did like the entire movie. I even liked the ending, even if not as much as the rest of it. (And yes, *nobody* liked any part of the movie more than the dog. NOBODY!)

THE DOG. SHE WAS AWESOME. I don't know - it just left too many questions unanswered, which bugs me. But in all it was an okay movie, I just expected too much from it.
