OMG THIS IS SO AMAZING.

I--I want to take it to school and stick them ALL OVER some of my classmate's worst designs, OH HELL YES, IT'D BE SO THERAPEUTHICAL and It'd be sort of awesome to be able to say YOU GO AND KERN IT, BITCH, THAT SHIT AIN'T LEGIBLE. My favorites are the 'comic sans is illegal' and the 'alert: typo', because you'd never guess it from reading this journal, but I'm actually a FEARED GRAMMAR NAZI in Spanish and all of my friends yell OMG STFU whenever I rant about something missing an accent, lol.

And mmm, but this reminded me I wanted to Talk Shop about some people's horrible LJ layouts and some people's BEAUTIFUL layouts that are completely unpractical and that no matter how pretty would still be design crimes. But maybe later.

ETA: and in a completely different subject, a guy was watching this in in Design class today and I ALMOST DIED LAUGHING, YES. Tickle Me Emo, LOL.

You are making me slightly nervous, since I am fairly sure I am one of your bad designers. (It is not my fault I keep being forced to do graphic design work when I have no training and am not good at it!)

And I like my ever-changing impractical layouts (although I've seen many that I wonder how they manage to read their own journal).

I should also stay away from you when writing in Spanish. I can never remember the bloody accent on commands with more than three syllables or two pronouns.

Well, I have quite a lot of respect for people who code, as I know shit about it, and the pretty well, it helps to not be so viscious, honest. But most of the hate goes to the awful people that have times new roman in PURPLE with a black background in pt. 7 font. MY EYES, THEY BURN.

And that's the thing, that they're so pretty and easy on the eye and it's easy to forget about psychology of color. But from what I can see you're doing mostly fine, at least you don't have such a pronounced high contrast with the background XD

Nah, it's a completely different standard for non-native speakers - I'm on the other side of the spectrum, and I made typos by the DOZEN in English, so I'm in no position to bitch at someone. It's the native speakers that make me want to throw things at the wall, as they have been learning (and ignoring) this stuff since they were in preschool, omg. And if you ever want to practice Spanish, or anything, I promise I'm not all that harsh. :)

In my own defense, I prohibit using Times New Roman and Comic Sans anywhere in a design. (I did a logo for a local company, and they wanted Times New Roman on their logo. I put my foot down about that.)

Haré. (I'm trying for 'will do', but I'm fairly sure it doesn't translate literally.)

There are actually times in which times new roman would look really pretty, but definitely not on the net. serif fonts on the whole, actually, are just uncomfortable to read on the computer. BUT YES. You did good. (in what do you work, anyway, that they ask you to do logos?)

hee, add a 'lo' before and you got it.

Also, I would very much like to hear your thoughts on LJ design. I love reading stuff like that.

There are 4 different kinds of lj design.

1)The Horrible: You know the deal. Times new roman in dark purple with a black background and/or lame as hell brown, bonus points if it all the text comes in BIG size. Usually no headers or badly cropped ones made out of bad screencaps that still have the CW logo on them, or something. There's usually a cheesy title on the journal. There always is. EXTRA bonus points for animated gifs with like, moving TORCHES or something. You know. The kind that makes your eyes BLEED with the godawfulness.

2)The Tacky: Usually a step up design wise and more pityful than anything else. It usually features bad manips with Sam and Dean kissing and/or the Doctor and the Master shagging over dark red ottomans. There usually are whips involved in the latter. There is also a lot of usage of BIG and HORRIBLY saturated photos with lousy photoshop filters on them repeated over and over again as a background. With comic sans on top of it. In white. There will be a lot of emoticons.

3)The Pretty: It'll usually be gorgeous looking, but it'll be a bitch to read. Tiny teensy verdana font, usually in white over gray, scarlet or cyan, with curly/leave motiefs on the sides (whose names elude me in English) and with italics in pink or green, depending on the background color. Headers will be classy and glossy and omgsopretty and there will be a lot of centered paragraphs. The comments page will be the same and you'll have to squint a lot and wonder at words and then give up and use ?style=mine because damn if I'm going to fuck my eyes out by trying to figure out what the liiiiittle letters say and you'll be left wondering if these people don't need glasses by now from trying to read their flist like this. But. it is so preeeetty. It is CONFUSING.

4)The Practical: Usually will look relatively pretty and nice but it won't be mouthwatering. If there are headers they will be well done and nice and there might even be wacky backgrounds, but there'll be a place for posts/comments that is one-color only and easy on the eyes. Usually white or cream colors, dark gray font in text instead of black to make it easier on the eyes and colors on italics but not so much it'll make your eyes hurt. It will be well organized and thank GOD the comment page will be the default one and it'll be easy to read fic on it. It's nothing flashy and it doesn't gather attention, but it'll allow people to get to back=120 and not get a headache.

The first kind I hate with a passion. The second makes me lol big time but it also makes me want to strangle people. And then lol again. The third I 'ooooh' and 'aaaah' about but get tired of. I'd like to believe my own layout is on the last kind, but I sometimes do wish for something prettier and group 3 kind so that probably makes me a filthy hypocrite, haha.

I sort of want to link to examples but. That'd be sort of incredibly asshole-y of me, hee.
