nekare: (colorful Doctor)

My dad just called from Argentina. He's coming back on Saturday and hopefully with a big, big box of alfajores. Not that I'm, you know, a self-centered bitch, or anything. Not at all. *whistles* In any case it was nice because the last time I picked up when he called he'd woken me up and all I said was basically 'gggggggh, no, mom's out, yeah I'm okay, bye.' lol.

Guys. I think I've just found my Rose love back. YEAH I CAN'T BELIEVE IT EITHER. And all thanks to this little jewel of a fic:

Coming around by HonorH, Doctor Who, Nine/Rose. Post-Doomsday, the Eight Doctor crashes in the parallel universe, and it's up to Rose to fix him into the man she first met. This is just - so lovely. The Doctor is just so broken, right after the Time War, and Rose has grown so much but remained true to herself.

And since we're already on the reccing subject:

Thirteen Steps by Nonelvis, Doctor Who, Doctor/Tardis, Doctor/Everyone. Fewer things make me happier than a 'he loves them all' story. Subtly shippy and just wonderful, the tale of different compaions (and one machine) that truly mattered for the Doctor. Just lovely.

Like a Bubble Heading for a Spike by [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis, Supernatural, Sam/Ruby. The best Sam/Ruby out there, in my opinion, this has enough of a mind-fuck and haunting prose to make this just stick in your mind for days afterwards. Spoilers up to 3x04.

The Fall and Rise by [livejournal.com profile] aerye, Supernatural, Sam/Dean. Post-apocalypse fic, Sam and Dean make a stand and help building a new world for the survivors. The most hopeful kind of apocafic, this is just uplifting, while still being creepy and unforgiving.

And So Awaken Devils by [livejournal.com profile] concernedlily, Supernatural, Sam/Dean. After Dean's deal is up, Sam becomes the ruthless general Ruby wants him to be. Bela brings Dean back from the dead, for her own benefit, and he then has to live with the knowledge that Sam brought the end of the world for him. Raw and intriguing and good and fantastically long and riveting - this just kept me up at night because I had to know what was coming.

The Devil You Know by [livejournal.com profile] vinylroad, Supernatural, Sam/Dean. What happens before the apocalyse, and after Dean goes to hell. Just - there aren't enough words of praise. Utterly haunting and creepy and smart and the ending just blew me away. Read it. Seriously.

This is the Sun Gone Down by [livejournal.com profile] dark_reaction, Supernatural, Sam/Dean, in which Sam has multiple personalities. I just loved the concept, and the way it was handled was just brilliant.

Little Pink Houses For You And Me by [livejournal.com profile] traveller, Supernatural, Sam/Dean. This is kinda old, but still so good. Incredibly evocative and with a neat, lyrical prose, it alternates between Sam and Dean pre-Stanford and them now, the way they were together and they way they are now. Lovely.

In the quicksand and the clay by [livejournal.com profile] elohvee, Supernatural, Sam/Dean. My favorite kind of wincest: Fumbling, drunken first time with lots of angst about it. All while told in such a beautiful way.

This Thing Of Ours by [livejournal.com profile] fleshflutter, Supernatural, Sam/Dean. The Pilot – if the Winchester family business were organised crime rather than hunting the supernatural. I read this yesterday and it blew me away. Almost scarier than the actual pilot, if only because it is so brutal.

Tuesday's Gone by [livejournal.com profile] dontyouwaitup, Supernatural, Sam/Dean. Coda to Mystery Spot this just makes complete sense, and it takes Sam's new characterization and runs with it. So satisfying, in the end.

Beneath the Stains of Time by [livejournal.com profile] javajunkie13, Supernatural, gen. Probably my favorite Mystery Spot coda, this just deals with Sam's changes perfectly, the way he's so messed up and Dean is so worried. Wonderful.

I Always Knew How I’d Die (But I Never Thought I’d Live That Long) by [livejournal.com profile] truelyesoteric, Supernatural, gen. Jess fic, which fleshes her out as a completely real human being. Jess's first memory was her last, her death. She goes through life knowing she'll die young and trying to get in as much as she can while it lasts. This just blew me away, I swear, it was that good.

And what does this mean? That I really should read more SPN gen. Um. Rec me some? Especially something with mind-fuck written all over it, please?

Alfajores and fanfic in the same post? Nothing could make me happier, truly. XD

Will read the DW recs - I've mostly been reading Torchwood myself (and would you believe it, I found gen fic) but I've found some fabulous DW/TW crossovers...

Under New Management (http://ivy03.livejournal.com/282004.html) (G-rated CRACK) - "Oy, you lot, I heard you opened the rift and jeopardized the entire space-time continuum. How stupid are you?"
aka What If Donna Ran Torchwood?

They Grip the Ground (http://community.livejournal.com/tw_flashfic/9463.html) Other than some Jack/Ianto flirting this is - OMG - gen. Ok, this one is all Torchwood, but it's short, original and really really funny.

The Comedie of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark" (http://reina-isabella.livejournal.com/5555.html) (DW; G) What do you takes't me for? Hamlet, gets't thou cracking.
DOCTOR WHO/HAMLET CROSSOVER MADNESS. *geekgasm*

Hello, Doctor (http://shaggydogstail.livejournal.com/235848.html) (DW/TW; PG-13) In which Martha, Gwen and Tosh get drunk and prank call Ten.

Torchwood Emergency Protocols for the Recognition and Apprehension of the Doctor (http://shaggydogstail.livejournal.com/190567.html) (TW/DW; R; Doctor/Ianto, Owen/Gwen, Ianto/Tosh and Jack/pretty much everyone) The Doctor meets Torchwood. Do I need to tell you it's deliciously crack-y and very much not G-rated?

*goes off to read your recs*

Yay, recs! Thanks much, I'll try and read them in a while :3 (am awfully intrigued with Donna As Head Of Torchwood, yes.) I have to admit, though, reading Torchwood + gen is like one of those things doesn't belong with the others, lol.

I'd already read the ones by [livejournal.com profile] shaggydogstail and they are AWESOME indeed.

And you should really try SPN. I'd warn for the cheese, but TW has TEN TIMES MORE, so I know you can handle it :P And while it has its problems, it's mostly just wonderful.
