Honestly? I think it's silly. I'm pissed about the no basic accounts thing as much as the rest of them, but honestly? The strike will do nooooothing about it. I mean, look at it, the main Russian guy pretty much said 'LET THEM OPRESS US WITH THEIR STRIIIIIKE' and hell, they'd be quite happier without fandom present in lj.

Actually, what would REALLY get their attention is TOO MANY POSTS, TOO MANY COMMENTS, ALL THE TIME bang bang LET'S CRASH THE SERVERS. As it is, it's Good Friday, so it's not like there's going to be a lot of postage anyway.

So I'm not saying that I'm going to rain on your parade and spam your flists this Friday, because I won't (anyway, it'll be sort of booooring in here without y'all), but I'm not participating in the strike. I'll probably be out of town, anyway, so it'll be moot point.

*shrug*

In all honesty, I'm more partial to this idea of mine of destroying SUP via CAT MACROS. It'd be one hell of a lot more fun, that's for sure.

I'm sort of baffled by having half of my flist going STRIIIIKE.

Um. Wha---? Seriously? o_O

Yup, I agree with you. The russian dude is all LOLZ about the strike and about fandom in general. And tbh.. this time I don't get it, what was so bad that lj did? sure they hid some interest from the list... O_O so? and the basic account thing, well, yeah that sucks but it's not so bad either (imo).

I'm not in favor or against, but I'll try to stay away from lj just to help those that care, but meh.

Yeah, it certainly isn't all so nice of LJ, but compared to strikethrough and boldgate? Pretty tame, really. *shrug*

I'll be around, but I'll try and not to comment on journals that I know support the boycott, if anything to respect them (lj I don't give a damn, lol.)

It is pretty tame, but.

I think people are more pissed that LJ went about doing it ninja-style. They only said something about "streamlining."
No announcement, no nothing.

And then that stupid Jason guy (with the eskimo hoodie icon) claimed that it was because the sign-up process was OMGtoo confusing because there were *gasp* three options to choose from!

Poor customer base, they're too stupid to choose between Basic, Plus and Paid. Here, we solve all this for you by taking away the Basic option. See? Now you only have two choices!

*rolls eyes*

Also: re interest list, the implications that people who like fanfic and depressed people are somehow as bad as pedophiles...

that's just. UGH.

Honestly? I found the FUZZ about the interests disappearances to be overrated. They made a business related decision, in which they chose to hide fandom from the public eye. Fandom has been up in arms for YEARS about how bad for us is exposure, and how we're too much in the limelight, and THEN they complain because they don't get enough limelight. Ugh.

In all - they hurt no one; they didn't delete any account or anything and if anything, assholes like that group that started strikethrough have it more difficult to find us. So yeah, I don't see the outrage.

If fandom is marginalized on LJ, they can continue to trivialize us "Oh, those few hundred crazies who only hang out in the peripheries of LJ. Not our customers, not our problem."

Dunno, to me it's like moving truckloads of homeless people somewhere else because tourists are visiting your city.

here. (http://darkrosetiger.livejournal.com/373663.html)

Basically, the dude is sort of insane but wants to hug capitalism like nobody's business. Oh, and he says that the company is 'under blackmail from hostile forces.'

Said hostil forces being, of course, fandom.

Mostly, it makes me lol XD

I do feel silly using a term as melodramatic as "strike," but it seems like as good a way as any to complain, assuming you still want to use the service. It's more like filling out one of the comment cards at the restaurant that's been in business for thirty years: You know it won't make any difference, and you know you won't give up the food, but you may as well try. :D

TOO MANY POSTS, TOO MANY COMMENTS, ALL THE TIME

I doubt you could get people to do it even if it weren't probably a TOS violation, but the thought of the sheer numbers that would have to be involved to get robustness out of the LJ servers is a sort of ecstatic vision. Like imagining Niagra Falls.

Exactly - if people were actually going to leave, they would have done so a looong time already. As it is, we can't really do anything, unless something like strikethrough repeats itself and THEN we would HAVE to get involved, and bitchbitchbitch until we can at least reach an agreement.

That's the bad thing, I mean - if Potterdamerung didn't kill the internetz, nothing will, right? BUT. it'd still be QUITE fun to try and kill the servers, wouldn't it? It'd be like, EPIC CAT MACRO TIME. WITH ADDED EPICNESS. XD

(if all, the strike/boycott/whatever is just going to make for an easier day for the fellows in Russia. At least play hart do get, gals!)

OH MY GOD THANK YOU!!

Friggin' sheep. Yeah, it was stupid of LJ not to outright say they weren't making basic accounts anymore and not saying anything about the interests thing, but frankly I do NOT give a shit. 1)I pay to use this site because I want icons and 2) I didn't even know about that "common interests" crap. How many of these people even use that feature? You can still search for their "banned" interests and get results, big fat deal.

I'm just so pissed off that every other post on my f'list is all: OMG GUYS DON'T POST!

SUCK MY BALLS, I DON'T CARE! LJ is a business, not happy share time or... something.

They also just gave more fuel to this one friend who's been threatening to leave since Strikethrough '07 and is STILL HERE. GTFO ALREADY IF LJ IS SO FULL OF OPRESHUN! UUUUGH

Wait, what's going on? There's a strike. What happened? Clearly I am living under a rock.

Yep, people are boycotting LJ tomorror - no posts no comments no anything (NO FUN that's what it is). Because LJ decided to take 'fanfic, yaoi and slash' from the 'most popular interests' list. And then put them back.

*headdesk*

Hahaha, LJ has lost their balls ever since they've been bought out, what a shame. But it's all for progress I suppose, haha. So now I know what's going on, interesting.
