Okay, so I lied. So sue me.
From
insomnia_geek's panel report:
Kripke believes that Dean is the hero of the story and it's really about him. Sam may be the Joseph Campbell hero, with the prophecy and destiny and psychic powers and whatnot, reluctantly dragged along in what appears to be a larger plan. But then you have Dean, who doesn't believe in destiny, doesn't have faith, is very pragmatic, but he keeps fighting anyway. He uses tools, but doesn't necessarily believe in what's behind them (rosaries, holy water, Christo, etc.) My fave quote? Kripke on Dean: "Fuck this prophecy shit. You're my brother and I love you."
Oh God, I love that. I love that he KNOWS just how incredible Dean is as a character, the way he carries a very, very large part of the SPN story, and the way the crazy way he loves his brother (and the way Sam loves him in return, because damn), is what makes this show so good. OH, DEAN.
Both Gordon's and Henricksen's storylines were shortened because of actor availability. Sterling K. Brown is a regular on Army Wives, and Lifetime said SPN could have him for 2 more times, then never again. So they killed him off. Originally there was a storyline about Gordon leading the posse after Sam b/c he killed another hunter (while possessed), but that wasn't going anywhere so they dropped it. Charles Malik Whitfield booked a series, so he's gonna be too busy, so they killed Henricksen.
I really hope this will lower the spn wank we've been having since Jus in Bello. I know it's not a solution, and it's not an excuse; we can't blame racial issues on actor availabiity or the lack thereof - the problem exists, but it probably isn't as large as we all thought. I hope so, anyway, and that Kripke and the rest of the writes ARE aware of said problem. They've had a lot of time these months to really think of this, and they got a lot of fan reaction. I just want them to fix it and for the fans to stop tearing at each other.
(All of this spaming comes from me doing homework and staring at the illustrator/inDesign pages in despair. Argh, these flyers are going to suck. ;__; So, I need the distraction.)

OH, DEAN ♥ [He does seem to make you do that doesn't he?] & OMG THE LOVE IN SPN, I don't actually know of another show that does that so well & EEEE. I want April 24th now kthnx.
See, I never saw any of the racism/misogny that a lot of the fandom did. but that's probably because when I see characters, I don't even look at their race/gender. For me, they're characters & characters only. Sure, it's a part of their character but it's never something I see. So when Gordon & Henricksen were killed off I was really upset but only because I thought the CHARACTERS were awesome, not because I saw any racism.
IDK, maybe I spend far too much just blindly squeeing over shows & not thinking about them in-depth [I let other people do that for me] long enough to think about those issues.
[/unrequested novel. I'm really, really bored & shoud be asleep only I can't]
