The best thing the ~epic~ post of epicness over at ONTD has come up with:

5/5/08

DAZZLE DE MAYO

IMAGINE THE SPARKLY GIANT FONT, OKAY? XDDDD

Anyway, yeah, I'd totally forgotten it was cinco de mayo. Mabye because we had SCHOOL when all the other motherfucking schools in the COUNTRY had the day off. For shame, yo, for shame. Anyway, 'tis the aniversary of that time we beat the French and it's all ~somber~ and shit so I honestly don't get why it's celebrated in the US as in YAY TEQUILA DAY. UM. WHAT? In all honesty, we hardly even celebrate it in here - it's a holiday (when certain colleges aren't being DIPSHITS, that is) and a free day aaaaand that's about it. We certainly don't celebrate with tequila, lol.

I am happy to inform, however, that my 10 year old nephew was taught the true meaning of the day (the beating of that French ass). When I was in school, they never taught us anything so, naturally, most people grow up to believe it's the Mexican Independence Day. I shit you not.

Ignorance runs rampant...

Lol, it's not that hard of a stretch, considering Mexicans in the US celebrate 5 de mayo muuuch more than sept. 16, haha.

But it's good to know some kids do get it right. :D

AHAHAHA DAZZLE DE MAYO XD

apparently, Cinco de Mayo was first celebrated here in California in the 1860s as a protest to French rule in Mexico. and then it morphed over the years as a day to generally celebrate Mexican-American culture and history...

... aka get $2 Coronas and eat tacos. it's pretty much like St Patrick's Day here and how that's an excuse to eat corned beef and cabbage and drink green beer.

Mm, well that explains it. Okay, a $2 Corona is such a WRONG concept. In my college parties, you can get, well, Sol (because Corona is too good for this kind of parties), at approximately $.50 dlls during happy hour. LOL.

Funny, considering twenty years before it'd been the US that had invaded us, haha. AH, PEOPLE. SO FICKLE.

rprattz is the prettiest thing ever tbh

Um, Americans like any reason to party. We (not including me) also enjoy St. Patrick's Day and Mardi Gras. Any excuse to get drunk is a great excuse in their minds.

LOLOL DAZZLE DE MAYO!! XD

I need to read those books for the lulz.

Also, I hate cinco de mayo with every fiber of my being. But then, I don't approve of other cultures being used as an excuse to get shitfaced. If you want to drink, just drink and STFU [/mini rant]
