After a while of hardly reading any comics, and after months and months of not reading anything but superhero comics, I went back to indies and not so indies and Vertigo and Wildstorm and a little bit of Avatar. YAY COMICS. So, the book you should all be reading? DMZ. A;LSJFLSDJ. So fucking good, you guys. ♥ Basically, it deals with the US in a new civil war, in which Manhattan ends up as the last city neither army can take - it turns into a cruel, hard war zone, and we see it all through the eyes of the sole journalist in the island, Matty Roth. Not gonna lie, the reason I started reading was the covers - made by writer Brian Wood. Ah, if only he drew the interiors as well. Burchielli's artwork is growing on me, but it's still a bit wonky. Still, Brian Wood (whose style is so very urban illegal art; I'll be damned if there's not a couple of stencils by him around Brooklyn) ocasionally does a issue here and there, and the guest artists are always fantastic. I'm definitely getting this one in trades as soon as I can, especially Friendly Fire, which was mind-numbingly amazing.

I started reading 100 Bullets today, some, uh, ten years too late - it's supposed to run for 100 issues, and it's in 98 already, haha. So far, I like it - very new-noir, very raw; definitely very violent. But still, quite good, and I've heard the plot gets quite thick after a while, so I'm excited about that. The same as in DMZ, it was the covers that made me want to read it. They're all gorgeous, made better by the fact that it's the same artist as in interiors, so the look continues throughout the book.

And now I shall go read Dark Reign, Mighty Avengers, Ex Machina, Fables, Spiderman Noir, Invincible Iron Man and Patsy Walker: Hellcat. I love comic book release weeks. :DDD

dmz and anything bwood has been my fave for a few years. i have up to the first 3 trades in single-issues and then trades from 3 and 4. i need the rest. the best is when donaldson comes around and does a few issues here and there. mostly because wood/donaldson on supermarket is one of my most faves. for real.i also recently got the beautiful local hardback. it's so gorgeous, it kills. wood's new york times issue of dmz stays out on my desk as inspirational material. it's so good.

i never read 100 bullets. i should start as well.

Oh man, I haven't read Supermarket, but I loved loved loved Donaldson's art, so I might have to get it now. :3 And oh, that issue, it was so beautiful and added such a lovely touch of realness to the story. ♥

I've only read the first volume, but so far it's pretty good, and the art is amazing.

READ IT. NOW. SO GOOD.

I WANTED to take it slowly with it, because I'm liking it so much and didn't want it to be over too soon, but I just can't put it down, lol.
