It sort of bothers me when people use the word 'fiesta' as an ~exotic~ word, meaning piñatas or whatever. A fiesta is just a party, any party, all parties, not just nachos and salsa dip or whatever dim people think Mexican cuisine is all about. Bah.

You know what hurt my little patriotic heart? Seeing an Explorer Dora 'fiesta' doll. man, that was sad.

Man, I don't know about you, but I think salsa (One of my ex-coworkers kept referring to the pizza sauce as "pizza salsa," when we had a spicier pizza sauce, and I kept thinking she meant that, but she just meant the sauce, because salsa always meant "spicy sauce" to me) and guacamole and nachos with cheese, and I think Tex-Mex, not WAHOO LET'S THROW A MEXY-CAN FEEYESTA, YAWL!

...Don't even get me started on Cinco de Mayo used as an excuse to drink lots of Jose Cuervo and Mexican beer.

GOD I HATE THAT SO MUCH. Just using random Spanish where it has no place and doesn't help annoys me. My friends do it at me and we joke that it's so "I can understand what they're saying," but that's a joke. I know they're kidding specifically because I ranted at them when I encountered other people doing it. I know they wouldn't say "fiesta" to make their lame ass party sound ~cool~

Oh god I know too many other fools who say, "no bueno" at the end of whatever they think sucks. It makes me wish they'd be overly dramatic and say FML instead. It's that bad. D:

OH and on the subject of Mexican cuisine... jesus. OUT OF NOWHERE (I really can't remember how this came up) one of my friends just said to me, "I just don't like Mexican food. Sorry." Oh OK bitch, because you've had all of it and you know. UGGGGGHHHHH!!

In Spain, 'fiesta' = flamenco, bullfighting and sangria. As if a) all Spaniards are approved of bullfighting (I don't know, but I'd of more than 60% of Spanish people are against it) and b) were the same. And don't get me started on the association Spanish = gipsy or flamenco.

I don't feel Spanish to begin with but yeah, it bugs me too :P

ps. we have piñatas, too, but not in the shape of a donkey (although I suppose not all Mexican piñatas are donkey-shaped?).

Are they shaped like a box? I went to catholic school and the nuns (from Spain and Cuba) had special piñatas that were not hit to get to the candy, but had little strings that you pulled. One of the many strings would open the piñata, so no little kids got hit by a stray stick hit.

You can buy those box-shaped piñatas with strings in shops, but in my area they sometimes use earthenware pots which have to be hit and broken with sticks. Like this.

(it makes the game more dangerous, but it's tons of fun imho :D)

Oh wow, I'd never seen one like that! I remember red clay Mexican piñatas that were covered in colorful paper, which look like stars maybe, but not one without paper. But clay piñatas are a rarity now, most I've seen are made out of newspaper and wire.

No sé, creo que ya he llegado al punto de que ya ni me ofendo. O más bien si pero ya no quiero ni pensar en eso porque... ¡FRANCAMENTE! :S
