I've been doing closet spring cleaning today, and I was quite struck by the stuff I used to wear, and by the stuff I've been choosing not to wear anymore.
The clothing you wear is always a representation of your personality, but I think as an adult you can sort of distance yourself a little bit from it, or at least be able to tell it's not all you are; whereas, as a teenager, it is you, in a way. It was so weird to see the clothes I used to wear six, five, four years ago - it's not just that it's outdated now, it's more that I chose to present myself as such a different person back now. My first years of high school, all I would wear were muted t-shirts in low pastel colors, not even very nice quality, unassuming baggy jeans and really horrible baggy hoodies. I guess I really did want to pass by unnoticed and unseen. OH, LITTLE SELF. I contrast, I liked to be noticed for how I dress now - that's the whole point of my rainbow jacket (the one that looks as if a unicorn had thrown up on). I think I only started to like the BRIGHT BRIGHT colors halfway through uni. And then I took to wearing studded belts. lol. There was also a time in secundaria where I would only wear flip-flops. All. The. Time. Then they were banned in school and I nearly weeped. And a tie-dye shirt. I used to wear the hell out of that, yikes.
In conclusion: growing up - it is good.
