Doctor Who 5x10 - Vincent and the Doctor: That was surprisingly good! I even teared up, and everything! Which is weird because the Doctor Meeting Historical Figures episodes tend to be cute but a bit rubbish. So, anyway, I loved that they took him to the museum, it was such a beautiful moment, and I liked that they didn't just handwave his depression. And that bit where they all lie down and watch the stars was truly gorgeous.

And mentions of Rory! So the Doctor DEFINITELY remembers, then. And Amy knows something's wrong, though she can't tell what. LET THIS BE FORESHADOWING OF HIS RETURN, SHOW. YES. PLEASE.

So, yeah, not perfect and a bit weird in the plot department but nice ep. It does bother me a bit that everytime there's someone famous in the show it's ALWAYS the BEST painter/writer/scientist/what-have-you. I mean, only in New Who, the Doctor's repeated that of Dickens, Shakespeare and in smaller measure Agatha Christie. Surely not ALL of the best (of the best of the best). It's a bit of a tricky thing to call an artist that, as taste can be so very subjective.

(ALSO, LIES. DICKENS IS ANNOYING. Or at least, I still feel cheated over David Copperfield (so much that I never finished it) for having cried miserably over the first half of the book only to have David turn into a wanker and have Dora be the most annoying prat in existance. BAH.Typically enough, my boy adores him. We argue about it at least once a month.)

David Copperfield was a frustrating read, and I absolutely detested Dora too. However, I must side with the boy on this one. I really like Charles Dickens on the whole. I actually started rereading Great Expectations today (I haven't read it since I was 14 years old).

Well, I must admit that sort of turned me off reading more Dickens, so I guess I'm kind of biased, lol. I also must say that I had a really really crappy translation in which even the names were translated, so Emily was Emilia and so forth. Ew.

I guess maybe I'll try reading another of his books again. Maybe, haha. What's Great Expectations about?
