To be honest, I'm kinda sad that the epic story of kindred spirits meeting in the Tube as shown by Dinosaur Comics didn't end up in TRU WUV. AW. Ah well. It was exciting while it lasted, lol.

Just got back from holiday! It was probably a bit too long spent in small quarters with my family. And I was getting so sick of being forced to watch football all day long. ARGH.

A high school's friend's dad died today, I just got a call. She adored him, and just yesterday was her university graduation, so it's quite sad. He was already 60-ish when we were in high school, and he was a kind if slightly eccentric man, but my biggest memory of him was when my friend, at 16, found out she had five older siblings of which her dad had never told her about, and how they'd all grown up hating her because he'd abandoned their mother for my friend's mom. That was, obvious to say, quite shocking. It never sat well with me how a man could deny his own children like that. But he was always nice to me? Don't speak ill of the dead, I know, but, yeah.

I'm too tired to go to the wake tonight, but I'll go with a friend tomorrow morning. Weird thing, going to funerals at this age.

Oh man, that family story hit a bit too close to home - well, mine was not quite so dramatic, but still, elderly parent / surprise older sibblings... it's tough. I guess at some point you learn to forgive and forget, because it's either that or feeling rejected and guilty over something that you did not do - I hope she doesn't feel like her siblings hate her; in any case, they hated their father, and because it was easier, they directed their bitterness towards an easy target precisely because they did not know her. Did she get in touch with her eldest siblings after finding out?

Oh, I didn't know that happened to you as well...

She sort of gets on with them, a bit grudgningly on their part, but they're not very close. But yeah, it's pretty much as you say, it was probably easier to just blame her instead of her father. If I remember well the guy used to say it was no one if they happened to call, or something, which I've always found really low. Oh well.

Are you on better terms with your siblings now?
