I hate it when people say San Diego and/or other parts of California have better Mexican food than Mexico. People that say that are obviously twats, and have never tried proper Mexican food.

Yeah, it's like I would never say Chinese food is better in here, because I'm quite certain what it's sold here would not resemble proper Chinese cooking that much!

Having lived all my life on the Tijuana/San Diego border I can only assume whoever says stuff like that means they've been to places like Alberto's and their kind and think that's better in San Diego than in Tijuana. I very much doubt they've actually eaten any authentic Mexican food in their lives.
