Just finished reading Presque Vu by [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock, and, unnnngh. If you love Inception fandom at all, you MUST read this. Like, yesterday. 70 000 amazing words of one of the most imaginative and fantastic Inception fics so far. It starts out so different and then step by step you see all these people become the characters in the movie. ♥

I know! I started it late, too, but I just couldn't stop, even if I was tired, ha. And now I sort of want to read it again! ♥____♥

I forgot to say it's Arthur/Eames, I don't know if you're into that pairing?

Not as such, but I'm willing to give pairings I'm not big on a try if the fic is really that good.

The advantage of being a multi-shipper is nothing is out of bounds! ;-)

Then you should definitely give it a try then!

Being multishipper is probably the sanest way to go through life in fandom :D

YES, omg. I stayed up so late reading that one. I'm almost tempted to rec it to people who aren't in the Inception fandom -- I'm not wrong to think it's totally readable as a standalone thing, am I?

Inception is kind of eating my life, it's frightening.

Ohhhh, it was so good. I finished at half past two, lol, but I just couldn't stop reading!

Yeah, I think it makes sense - after all, it sort of works like a prequel of sorts for the movie. I've gotten into fandoms that way before, sort of by dribbling into fic and falling in love with the characters before watching/reading the original source. :)

No no, it's awesome, not frightening. XD

Me too! I think that's actually how I got into Supernatural, and possibly Merlin too? I don't know, there are some writers who are so good I try to follow to different fandoms when I can, like [livejournal.com profile] hackthis and [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock (Presque Vu was better than some of the novels I've read this year, in all honesty).

I kind of can't understand what's SO APPEALING about the Inception fandom. Or, I totally "get" it, I just can't quantify it -- I mean, the movie only came out in July and I have over two hundred really good fics saved in my Delicious account. How is something like that even possible?! The slash potential is there, but is it really that much more than other films?

Haha, yeah, me too! Both of those fandoms XD And then I started watching them already with my slash goggles firmly on, lol. And sort of Smallville but I'd already seen the odd episode here and then. Yeah, that's the thing, if you know an author is that good, you know the fic will be awesome even if you know next to nothing about that fandom. (which, by the way, have you been reading [livejournal.com profile] candle_beck's Sherlock Holmes fic? Ngggh, so good.) I definitely want to reread Presque Vu at some point. It's like [livejournal.com profile] derryere's Accidental Memory in the Case of Death, or [livejournal.com profile] seperis's stuff - it's the longer fic that stays with you and makes you sigh at odd moments when you remember it, haha.

Yeah, it's like what Iron Man was for 2008 - insta fandom with a gazillion quality fan stuff, but then again Marvel fandom had existed for eons before that. I didn't quite get the Arthur/Eames right off seeing the movie though (I mean, I digged it, for it was hot, but I couldn't see it in canon) and by now it's like SO OBVIOUS, lol. Yeah, that's pretty interesting - I guess it was a mix of the interesting and plotty background with potential slash and how much character development there was for Cobb (and sort of Ariadne) while leaving blank space for creativity in Arthur and Eames' characters? MMM.

Yeah, I started watching Supernatural with slash goggles, for sure. Interestingly, I think I went into Inception without them -- I went on opening night, with a bunch of friends who have no idea about my fannish involvement! -- and I mostly just came out thinking that JGL was a hotass. And then I ran into Arthur/Eames fic and it was all over!

I think Inception's fannish potential does have a lot to do with that "blank space" -- it sets up some really interesting concepts (the dreamsharing stuff, references to past events, or even stuff like "what happened in Arthur's past to make him so badass"), and then it leaves a lot of room to play, like all of the best fandoms. And yeah, you're right, there was a lot of development for Cobb ... to the point where I'm kind of not interested in him at all, since the whole movie is basically his angstfest. ;)

I haven't been reading [livejournal.com profile] candle_beck's Sherlock fic, no! Thanks for pointing it out! ♥ I loved her SPN stuff, but had no idea she was writing in the Sherlock fandom, too. I have also added Accidental Memory in the Case of Death & [livejournal.com profile] seperis' Merlin fic to my bookmarks; it's your fault if none of my class readings get done this week. :P

Actually, now that I remember, I think I lied - I HAD read SPN before watching it, but I was actually squicked by Wincest for the longes time, lol. OH, HOW DID THAT ENDED UP. I remember thinking JGL was a hotass since (500) Days of Summer, so that very pleasing, haha. And I must be honest, my crush with Leonardo DiCaprio after Romeo+Juliet? IMMENSE. So, yeah.

Yeah, right after seeing the movie all I wanted was big plotty gen fic about the dreaming, and now I still want that, only with sexings in between! But it's only now fandom's delivering, it was only porn in the early days (which... not necessarily a bad thing.) Yeah, I'm definitely not as interested in Cobb fic - we've seen so much of him already, I think that's enough. The rest of the team is fair play though!

Oh, well, it's mostly the 2009 movie, though she does have a Sherlock fic I think. I like Sherlock fic, even though I've only seen one episode of it (it had... problems. Dunno.) but the movie was awesome crack and she makes it sound like sexy versions of the books, lol.

Ohhh, Accidental Memory in the Case of Deat is DELICIOUS. It's reincarnation Merlin fic which, oh, it's so so lovely. You know, the kind of entrancing writing. And Seperis's stuff is greaaaaat and also quite hot. Just tell your teachers it was my fault and that it was totally worth it! BECAUSE IT WILL BE. :D

I thought JGL was adorable in 500 Days of Summer (also, Zooey Deschanel! I don't know, considering how many aspects of that movie I loved, it didn't work for me quite as well as it should have)! But ever since Inception I've just been obsessed. I guess guys in suits with guns who secretly have dimples just do it for me, or something? :D

Haha, me too! I'm glad the fandom's gotten to the point where it's expanding into plotty fic and gen character backstory now -- I mean porn is definitely awesome, I'm not complaining, but after our little corner of HP fandom I'm used to reading a lot of gen. Speaking of plotty genfic about dreaming, have you read Amazing Grace by [livejournal.com profile] airgiodslv? I literally just read it, and it's got a bit of Arthur/Eames but mostly it's just so thinky it makes my head spin in a nice way. (Also, Because it is bitter, and because it is my heart by [livejournal.com profile] kaydeefalls and anything by [livejournal.com profile] mithrigil!)

OH SHERLOCK. I definitely agree with the fact that the BBC version has problems -- I've seen all three episodes, because there were aspects of it I really liked, but I don't think I've ever been more frustrated with a show. I haven't actually read the original Sherlock Holmes canon, but that's on my to-do list!

Just tell your teachers it was my fault and that it was totally worth it! BECAUSE IT WILL BE. :D
