I'm SO pissed off about the assholes in Top Gears saying horrible xenophobic remarks about Mexicans. Here, they were speaking about how cars "reflect the country's people's spirit":

"Mexican cars are just going to be lazy, feckless, flatulent, overweight, leaning against a fence asleep looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat."

The presenters, known for their edgy jibes, then described Mexican food as "refried sick".

JUST. WHAT THE FUCK, how is that allowed to air? I, for one, am not watching Top Gear again, thanks.

It can be fun at times, but all of the enjoyment I might have had for it just shriveled away in disgust. UGH.

Why so faily, CJ, why???

I read that, it's so appalling. Like, why would they even think it's okay to say that? There was a post about it on ONTD and people were like "oh they are rude about everyone~", like it makes it better. NO IT DOESN'T. Urgh.

That made me so mad! I don't watch the show very often, and I'd only seen them be outright rude to cars and stuff, but if this thing has been going on for a while, it's because people have just been ignoring it and going 'oh, they're like that about everything, lulzzz'. If people took it seriously, they'd have to apologize. >:/

Holy hell. I've never seen it, but, just wow. I mean, this wasn't a live show, was it? Somebody actually edited that and thought it was dandy?

Exactly - and it's taped with a live audience behind the commentators, and everyone was laughing their heads off. I can't believe the BBC let that be aired.

Ugh, that's so completely disgusting. >:(

I'm still sort of reeling from it, to be honest.

I woke up to a text from my friend asking if I'd heard. I was not prepared for such stupid, ignorant bullshit. TBH the food comment pisses me off most. I'm kind of sad they can't move past Looney Toons for insults.

IN CONCLUSION: they can all eat a hot bowl of dicks.

I learned of that through ONTD, which was not pleasant either because it was filled with comments to the likes of 'bah, they always say stuff like that, who cares'. I CARE, BITCHES. US AND OUR LOVELY FOOD ARE TOO GOOD FOR YOU.

So racist attitudes are considered "edgy"?

posted by [identity profile] nekare.livejournal.com at 02:34am on 02/02/2011
Apparently. They'd always been sort of bitchy about everything, but this just gets the cake. UGH.

Yeah, that part annoyed me to. They managed to insult Germans and Italians right before this quote (not on the article, though, I saw that in youtube), but it wasn't as extreme. I can't believe how much shit they're allowed to say and how they won't even get a pat on the hand. >:/

Ugh, I fucking hate Top Gear on account of all the *ist crap they spout on a regular basis, but that horrible even by their standards. Unfortunately the BBC probably assume it can fly under the radar because there aren't many Mexican peeps in the UK to make a fuss about it. :/

I'd only watched the show very rarely, so I think I'd been lucky to skip the most horrid episodes, but yeah, I can't believe they keep on being allowed to spurt out horrible stuff like that and for everyone in the show to just laugh at it. And yeah, I bet if it had been a comment about some community that had more people in the UK, there would have been more outrage within the country, and a lot more people would have tried to educate them in political correctness. But it's a pretty awful situation, so I won't wish it on anyone.

(and everyone here is really annoyed about the food thing, haha. It's just been named patrimony of humanity by unesco, and we all love our food verging on obsessive, so everyone gasped a bit at that and went 'oh dare they!' lol.)

I think a lot of the time the opportunity to be horrible doesn't really come up - it's supposed to be a silly show about cars, after all, not that many obvious opportunities for *isms once women drivers has been done - but when they do decide to turn on the fail it's bigotry drives set to 11. You probably noticed while you were here that British people generally know fuck-all about Mexico and what we do know is filtered through a US-perception so... I'm not surprised they knew they'd get away with it.

OTOH, having your food insulted by the British, of all people...

*shrugs* I've always been slightly baffled by the way the internet squees over this show. It's the most bigoted thing in the world and always has been - Clarkson pretty much makes a living being a professional reactionary and writing columns for right wing tabloids about how political correctness is victimising him.

*wishes she was surprised by this, but really isn't*

I've been annoyed before by his commentaries, and have certainly eyerolled a lot (my bf's english and he hates Clarkson with a passion, the boy being a hardcore enviromentalist and everything), but I had never seen them cross the line in such a horrible way. Have you seen the video? It was about four minutes of straight hate speech, Hammond pretty much implied how horrible it must be to be a Mexican.

I'm hoping the international scandal (it's getting a LOT of fuss in here) will be enough to make the BBC seriously consider some changes.

What the fuck. What a disgusting example of hipster racism. Which -- and this makes it especially clear -- is really just straight-up racism. D:

It didn't sound very much like hipster racism though - I've watched the clip, and it was pure vile racism, without any front to hide behind. SIGH. It's getting a LOT of attention here, though.

SERIOUSLY?!

Ugh. Half of me wants to watch the clip now, and half of me knows I'll just get too angry. That's unbelievable. It's good that people are paying attention, though -- hopefully it'll get around to the UK & the BBC.
