My non-spoilery reaction is that i liked it very much, and that you can seriously tell there's money behind this. Everything looks absolutely amazing and the scenery for every single place looks gorgeous.
The title sequence was absolutely gorgeous, wasn't it? I love the idea of the map, especially when it's all changing and made of clockwork tiny machinery and fabric for the ocean! And like I said, all of the sets are stunning - Winterfell is so vast and homey (also, I loved the scenes with Bran climbing up and down like the little monkey he is, epecially with his OH SO ADORABLE puppy), the Red Keep looks fantastic and daunting, and Pentos looks dreamy and hazy. I approve. I can't wait to see how the do the Eyrie! Also, kudos for the Wall, and the glimpse we see of the Haunted Forest - it was beautiful in an eerie, claustrophobic way.
It's just, well, exciting to see the books come to life, so to speak. It feels like reuniting with great friends you've missed :3 On the plot side, well so far so good, even though I know the lack of names will give some people a hard time following the story. But I think it was clear enough? ALSO THERE WERE PUPPIES. No one will resist that. I wish we'd seen more of them though! I suppose it was harder to work with the puppies, and we'll just get them when they're older. I JUST WANT TO SEE SANSA AND ARYA CUDDLING THEIR WOLVES, OK? And speaking of! The kids were all great. Sansa was such a TEENAGER (oh Sansa ♥ you'll grow up I promise) and Arya was, well, ARYA, which means the most awesomest, and Bran was adorable and even knowing what was coming you still go NOOOO when Jaime throws him off the tower.
(It's really WEIRD though, because the kid playing Bran looks SO MUCH like a cousin's little cousin, and eh, said cousin is a girl, haha. So I look at Bran and think 'what the hell is Hannia doing there???)
The adult was, needless to say, amazing as well. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was, ugh, so hot. Jamie is not supposed to be likeable this early on! but I've sort of had a thing for Nikolaj since New Amsterdam, so. Can't be helped. Lena Headey is sort of playing a nicer Cersei I think. Or at least, much sadder, and easier to empathize with. This is not a bad thing. Peter Dinklage was superb I think. And Sean Bean, well, he is Ned Stark, that's it.
There was also lots of HALF!NAKED Jon, Robb and Theon (who gives a fuck about Theon though, DIAF, Theon), which was pleasing, because if they're gonna show boobs all the time, at least show some guy skin as well. All in favor of seeing Jon's ass raise your hands!
About Dany, she was a bit glassy-eyed, wasn't she? But her last scene sort of made up for it, while at the same time making it absolutely devastating. While the weeding night in the book was a bit unrealistic, I think they went too harshly on this one. Drogo did sort of ask for permission in the books, at least... ALSO, Viserys is absolutely crazy and creepy and fantastic. So, yay!
Is it next Sunday yet?
