SOOOO, today's episode of Games of Thrones is called Baelor, right? I better prepare myself for some intense pain, then. o____o

So I finally got to go watch X-Men: First Class last night, and then I proceeded to stay up until 5am reading Erik/Charles fic. So I think it's safe to assume that I loved it! It was smart, fun, angsty, complex, interesting and pretty looking, and after X3 and that horrible Wolverine movie and years of waiting for another decent X-Men film, it feels like I'm vindicated in that yes, the franchise is shiny again! YAYZ.

First and foremost: the burning homoeroticism. Yes, it was indeed glorious, and you know there has to be footage of them making out on top of that chess board somewhere in a cutting room. I love that they both played it as them completely falling for each other through the movie, and so dazzled by the other one, and that they're not afraid to say it on interviews and everything. (why, yes, I did love that McAvoy quote!) God, the way Erik goes into 'oh god oh no oh no please no' as he cradles Charles on the beach, and that I want you with me, ;lsdjfljd. They really weren't going for subtlety, were they? LOVE. SO MUCH OF IT.

I loved how they made Charles a bit of a dick, in a very inoffensive way but still there, because it's great to see gray areas with him, and he was very clearly in those gray areas with all the mind control, something his older self would be very against. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT HAS COME BACK TO THE X MOVIES, PEOPLE. IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL. ;____; And then Erik was a mass of rage and fear and revenge and tunnel vision and twisted philosopy and that was beautiful, too. And on a shallow note, boy, but he looked great on those turtlenecks. mmm. And James McAvoy always looks eatable, let's be honest.

Weird though, with the exception of Mystique (who is not even a kid by normal standards, anyway), I found the kids a bit bland. I say weird because in the original trilogy (it's so loltastic that it applies) I got bored by the adults and found Bobby/John and Rogue/Bobby/John the most interesting point. But ah well, they were still cool. And of course, Mystique and her traumas and strenghts is always fascinating. And a Rebecca Romijn cameo! YES. And Logan cameo! HILARIOUS.

Things I didn't like: killing pretty much the sole black character in the movie. IN MY HEAD CANON HE'S ALIVE, OK. Apparently in the comics his entire arc is that he can't die? So I'm running with that. (I don't really follow X-Men books because there's so many and I never know where to start. But I've been re-reading House of M and I might brave it soon.)

AND EMMA. January Jones was so BLAND. Emma is larger than life, she's such an amazing, overpowering character, and this one was just sort of there. JJ also looks so frail, like she's about to snap at all times. SIGH. I did love her 'pathetic,' snort while she made the general believe he was sexing her up, though. That was a total boss way of eating her crackers, haha.

I loved the 60s setting, as well. It just added to the plot. The people involved in the Wolverine attrocity could learn from that, they made that one so vague it was just weird and unsettling. My dad didn't like it pretty much because they meddled with real-life affairs, and I had to do a lot of sighing and explaining that comics do that all the time, that that's what keeps them current, and that it goes way to the beginning with Captain America punched Hitler in the face that one time.
