Cats are pretty easy to look after. My questions for a new cat owner would be:

1. Do you have someone to check in on the cat when you go away?
2. Can you change a litter box regularly?
3. Can you afford vaccinations and infrequent vet care?
4. Do you have lots of precious, delicate items or expensive furniture that should not be knocked over or scratched?

My cats are indoor cats, and one of them is a very active cat so I have to entertain him a lot when I'm home or he gets bored and destructive (this was obvious from his kitten behaviour). The others are pretty chill.

My issue mostly is that I live with my parents, and I'm pretty much the only one in favor of the cat. My mom goes 'oh, so cute', and then she goes 'but my curtains!1!' so that's my biggest worry. This particular cat seems like it would be lazy and not that destructive, but there's always the question.

So basically, yes to all? I don't personally care that much about the scratching because cat >>> couch, but my mom does not see it that way, and it's not like I can have a cat locked up just in my room all the time.

Cats are hell on curtains, I have to say. We bought new curtains (the cats had partially destroyed the old ones but they were actually 30 years old) and since we needed new fittings for them, we had someone come to install them. The guy was a thorough cat hater, and told us if we like our curtains we should get rid of the cats! We did not get rid of the cats, but our new curtains do have little puncture holes in them now. OTOH, my cats are Tonkinese cats which are unusually active cats - it's usually kittens who do this. You could probably adopt an adult cat without worries about the curtains.
