Watching Gillian Anderson casually deconstructing misogyny in The Fall is one of my favorite new hobbies. Ahh, such a good show.

In other news, I'm getting worried that I might be slightly allergic to cats? Me and my kitten say DO NOT WANT. It's not anything alarming, just a tickle on my throat, and mostly if I'm around when he uses his litter box, but still. Anyone got any suggestions? I'll get some antihistamines and see if it's really that or I'm just getting a cold.

My sister is mildly allergic to cats and she has five of them. She takes allergy medicine regularly, but otherwise I think the main thing to do is regularly wash the sheets/clothes where the kitten likes the curl up.

If it's mostly when he uses the litter box, though, that might be irritation from the dust rather than an allergy to the cat himself. Do you get itchy when you cuddle and pet him?

Well it's good to know it's still possible to have cats! I was pretty anxious today thinking I don't want to give him up.

Nope, not itchy at all, nor do I feel especially different or wanting to sneeze or anything. I've just been getting a constant sore throat for some days. It was a lot lot worse yesterday when he kicked up a dust storm burying his business though, I could feel it clogging up my lungs, so it might just be the litter after all. I starting wearing a mask while cleaning it today, and I've felt a bit better.

Yeah, that doesn't sound quite like a animal allergy, but everybody is different, so who knows!

Another possibility might be to go for a dust-free litter, or even just try a different brand. Some are much dustier than others.

There's lots of dust-free litters (including shredded newspaper), and ones that kick up a lot of dust are often not good for the kitten either, as he'll lick the dust off his fur and ingest it. My partner is allergic to cat fur (hence we have very short-haired cats that don't bother her too much) and she usually gets sneezes and an itchy nose, not a dry tickle.

I tried watching The Fall, but the camerawork was so wobbly that it was making me sick and I only got 10 minutes in. :(
