I finished Veronica Mars' first season yesterday (today?) at about 3AM. ;ASDLFKASLDKFJALSKD.
I love long plots. I love long, well-constructed mysteries, so from the get-go, this show hit all my right buttons - and did it so magnificently! The characters are all likeable in a very much real way, no one's a complete victim and no one's a complete bastard, they have valid reasons to be the way the are. Veronica is all kinds of awesome. Duncan breaks my little heart because he's so sweet and messed up and unbalanced. Logan is such an asshole and a little lost boy and I want to hug him and hit him and lick him all at once. *cough* Lilly was such a great, free character. Wallace is just too sweet and great. As I've said before - strip the funny and you got one lousy life for the protagonist, and yet, it never goes into full emo-fest mode, for which I'm thankful.
Okay, let's start with shipping? While Veronica/Logan has burnt me with the hotness in the last eps (snarky love, omg!), I really dig Veronica/Duncan. Even when they were supposed to be siblings *g* There's so much angstyness in there!
The last five or so episodes were pure win. Cliffhanger after cliffhanger and there's a reason I stayed up late on a Sunday night - it was impossible to stop watching. The writters did get a bit tangled up with trying to tie every single loose end in the last few eps, but I'll forgive them, considering they did so in such a classy way. And the last ep reveal! I'd never have thought Aaron Echolls did it. And yet it fits. (I kinda wanted a larger conspiracy, though...)
And the Kanes may be all bastards, but you gotta admit, they do love their son - they thought he'd murdered their daughter, and they still covered up for him. That scene when Veronica confronts him about what happened at the party? It gave me chills, it was so painful and well done. Logan at the end, dancing at the edge of the bridge? wonderful. Veronica's scared face after Keith is taken to the hospital? Broke my heart. I was really surprised that Veronica is not Duncan's sister after all, I kinda did wanted them to be related. Because I'm a perv. And the angst was so pretty. I'm so glad Veronica kicked her mother out, I would've been disappointed if the family had ended up all happy, actually, because life just doesn't work that way.
About the ending? I'm guessing Logan is too busy trying to breathe through a ventilator in a hospital somewhere after the beating Weevil must've put him through, so it's most likely not him at the door. It could be Duncan, but I doubt it somehow. My money's on Wallace, and he'll be cuddly and wonderful. *nods* Just. Wow. This series just won a special place in my heart.
I'm soooo glad I decided to randomly check my RL e-mail account (which I never open because all I get is a bazillion 'friendship tests' from my RL friends and my conspiracy theories from my dad), because I won't have Design class today and I would've gone and driven for an hour and a half for nothing. Wee!
