Went out with my best friend for the first time in what feels like ages. It was nice. She talked rather A Lot about how awesome her boyfriend is, though. *sigh* And it was nice to talk in real life about the guy I'm crushing on - my college friends all know him and hang out with him and they like mocking far too much.

Anyway, my family decided not to wait for me to get home before going to have tacos and ARRRRGH. THAT IS MEAN. Granted, they brought me back some, but grrrrrh, there was some mixup and they got me the tongue tacos sliced instead of chopped which sucks. And they were cold. *sigh* Er, why do I have the feeling this paragraph will squick most of my American flist not used to eating tongue? *shifty eyes*

Remember that goldfish my mind told me to draw in a dream? Well, it's done! (what isn't, though, it's all of my homework. *headdesk*)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Acrylics and ink on showcard paper.

The lines aren't as, you know, straight, as I wanted them to be, but I drew everything completely by hand, so it's not surprising. It actually took hours because show card paper isn't actually white, it's this weird grey-ish color, so I had to paint all of the background white.

Crappy photograph (para variar y no perder la costumbre) because it just figures than when my dad actually gets my scanner to work properly, this is far too large to fit it.(It's about 30x37 cmts, 11x14.5 inches according to teh internetz)

Mmm, I'm not sure if I'll draw the other thing my mind is telling me to, the angsty Robin (Tim Drake, actually) sitting on a bench after the end of the world. Probably saying 'Holy apocalypse, Batman!'

And I have to laugh because my first thought was "does that say tongue?" And then "Wait. Tongue TACOS?" And yet then, "sliced instead of chopped?" And I allowed a momentary shiver before reading on. Not high on the list of delicacies over here. ;)

Aww, sad fishie...

Haha, that't the thing, Americans hardly ever know real tacos, and real tacos aren't exactly done with the best part of cows XDD (there are brain tacos. They squick me out, personally, but there's people that swear by them) Tongue's actually really good though, my favorite meat hands down.

Hee! I think I shall take you word for that, m'dear. Then again, enough seasoning and almost any meat can be palatable (or so thought my college dining hall).

I AGREE WITH THIS COMMENT SO MUCH!!!

My parents love brain tacos. I'm like.... yo estoy bien con mis tacos de lengua, gracias! :P

Ya ni me acuerdo quando fue la ultima vez que comi un taco de lengua decente. D:

But yeah, I have friends who are all, "omg, I LOVE tacos!" and I'm like, "yeah, what you think passes for a taco."

A mi papá y mi hermano les ENCANTAN los tacos de tripita. A mi me da como cosita, la verdad. o_O

Ugh, debe ser gacho no poder encontrar tacos de verdad por esos lares. El año pasado que estaba en San Antonio pasamos por un restaurancito que se llamaba 'taquería Guadalajara', y de mensos fuimos y lo probamos y hijos de su madre, pero que HORROROSAS enchiladas tenían. ;___;

Jaja, has instruido a tus amigos en el arte del verdadero taco? Ha de ser divertido, si solo por ver las caras de 'OMG WHAT IS THAT?!?' XDD

TONGUE?!

*rereads paragraph*

Yes, that says tongue.

*goes back to art*

LALALALALALALA. PRETTY ART. NO TONGUE HERE, MOVING ON.

;)

(which, in short, means that I LOVE that drawing, omg. You painted that white background?? Man. I would love to have that printed on a handbag or a t-shirt or something. It's so cute!

Haha, I knew everyone'd react like that XDD I guess it's just stuff you grow up with - I've never once thought it's icky 'cause it's just everywhere, not a single decent stand around here (not so much in Mexico City but chilangos are weird, so whatever) would be caught not having tongue. And it's so expensive, too! *g* (don't worry, I'll order you more normal-ish tacos if you ever come here to visit XD)

Hee, yeah, the brush strokes are actually quite noticeable in real life XD Aww, thanks so much, sweet. Hehe, it would look kinda cool in a t-shirt, wouldn't it? *ponders* Too bad I haven't taken serigrafia (the English word is beyond me) yet, although apparently it's not worth it if you're not making like, a hundred t-shirts in one sitting. Too expensive otherwise.

Re: serigrafia? What you're describing sounds like 'silkscreening.' It's where you print something on a t-shirt, right? The cheapest/easiest way of doing that is to silkscreen it. There are all kinds of cheap printer programs/inks for sale that let you print your own iron-on designs, though... *schemes*

Re: tongue tacos--LOL, awesome. I'll just have to trust you then, won't I? ;) (*reminds self to ask spanish teacher what the word for 'tongue' is so she can avoid it*...)

Oh, we're learning indirect object pronouns this week and because I've already learned them in French, I'm the only one in the entire class who understands what they are, lol. It's so much easier when you can just say 'it' for everything, rather than having to agree with the subject... but I think your indirect pronouns are exactly the same as in French, so that makes it even easier for me! :-D

OH! I also downloaded Now Esto es Musica! Latino 2 last week... and I've been listening to it like crazy... I only understand about half of it, but that's twice as much as I would have understood six months ago. :-D

Mmm, with transfer paper, you mean? I tried it in a very ghetto way (we needed to have shirts with our final design for Brand class last semester, and we had to do everything a day before the expositions opened o_O), and the ink ended up bleeding everwhere the first time I washed it. I'm really looking forward to take that class.

Haha, it's Lengua XD I like that word, it sounds all slippery and stuff *g*

Hee, I had to look that up to know what that was - be it in Spanish or English, I've never known how the gramatical rules are called. I used to ignore the weird names while in English classes and just do whatever sounded best XDD

And aww, I found an old notebook some time ago in which I'd 'translated' some songs from English as practice. I laughed a lot because the translations was so. damn. bad. *g*

I love this! The colours are nice and contrast-y, and for some reason I really like the little bits of yellow in the clouds. The goldfish looks awesome, too!

And I wasn't really squicked about the tongue tacos until I got to the end of the paragraph and realized that you were actually talking about tongues (I thought maybe tongue was referencing something else?!). Ha!

posted by [identity profile] nekare.livejournal.com at 05:56pm on 14/04/2007
Weird thing is, I didn't realize I was working with contrasting colors until I was finished, I was all like 'ooooh, and I can hint the sky with straight lines! *makes flaily noises*' *headdesk* I guess my color theory classas have really got inside my mind without my knowing *g*

Haha, it's hard to think that other people don't actually eat it, I'm just too used to see it everywhere. (my grandma used to cook a kick ass tongue (man, it even sounds wrong in English. It doesn't bother me nearly as much as 'lengua') casserole when I was wee. *nostalgic emo tear*

It's so cute! XD I wanna squish it.

*is very amused* When I read the tongue bit, I went slightly "Um... ew?", but I wasn't sure if you were really referring to what I thought, then I read the rest and just had to laugh at myself for being squicked AND found out so easily. *g* No, uh, really, I guess if you like tongue, I mean I can imagine it tastes good, I just... I'm not very keen on trying it, I suppose. Let's say I'm skeptical. (And maybe a little squicked by how it looks.) *gg*

posted by [identity profile] nekare.livejournal.com at 06:57pm on 14/04/2007
*hands it over so you can squish it*

Haha, I just knew everyone would make faces at that paragraph XDD Thing is, tongue here (especially in my city, it's not as sought after in Mexico City) is something of the best and most expensive meat you can get in a taco. It's, dunno, something you grow up with all your life, so I've never ever found it weird.

But that's actually not the worst, there are brain tacos. I've never been brave enough to try them because they look disgusting, but there's people that think it's The Shit. *shrug*

(What about you? What's the typical food that would most look 'omg this is so horrible' to foreigners but actually tastes real good?)

posted by [identity profile] moonix.livejournal.com at 08:14pm on 14/04/2007
*squishes!* XD

Oh dear, I think I'd rather try tongue than brain. It look so slippery and... I don't know. *g*

Yeah, if you grow up with something, it's a different thing. I mean, yes, people here eat tongue and liver and lung and heart and those things too, but in general, it's still rather "ew" labelled. *shrugs* For me, things like that, and other stuff as well, mostly bother me because of the way they look and, even more perhaps, because of the way I imagine they'd feel in my mouth. There are a lot of things whose taste I don't have a problem with, but which I still don't eat because I hate the way they feel inside my mouth. Don't know if other people have that as well or if it's just me. *g* I mean, I love raw fish (sushi), which also has that "ew" label, but sushi looks wonderful and feels very pleasant in your mouth, so... yeah. And I wouldn't want to try those roasted insects (spiders and maggots and such) a) because of those two aspects and b) because of the association they provoke in my mind. Which is crawly, twitchy, they appear too suddenly, they look nasty, they're too small, they... *shudders* How can I ever eat spiders with these thoughts in my head? *g*

(What about you? What's the typical food that would most look 'omg this is so horrible' to foreigners but actually tastes real good?)

Uh, hmm... that's difficult. I'd know a few things that would look very disgusting to foreigners, but which I find very disgusting as well.

Um, there's something you can for example use as a bread spread... it's practically cooled-down, molten (pork) fat with bits of fried skin in it... a white, thick paste... I never tried that, but I tried the vegetarian variant with roasted onions, and I loved that. It's salty and cool and it melts immediately in your mouth.

Oh god, and then there's this stuff which translates to "liver cheese", which doesn't actually contain liver anymore (at least not in large parts, you never know) and it's not cheese either, it's, um... well, I always say it's minced meat waste with artificial taste, formed like a square and dyed pink... they sell it here, warm with mustard or ketchup in a roll... people love it... because they don't know what's in it (says I), and people nowadays will eat anything as long as they don't know what they're eating (says I). But actually, if you think about it, it's really, really disgusting. There are organic ones, though, and they're just made out of (good) pork and herbs and spices, so... they're pretty okay. (No waste products, urgh.) Actually, they're not that bad.

I'm actually a really picky eater, so I've been known to not eat something just because it looks to icky (like pitayas. (http://s39.photobucket.com/albums/e172/nekare/?action=view&current=pitayascriollas.jpg) The colors are awesome, yes, and my brother claims they're the best fruit EVER, but they look like tiny colorful brains and... yeah.). Haha, a few years ago, I was watching a movie with an uncle and he kept on eating and eating from a small plate. Without looking away from the tv I tried to reach the plate because I thought he was eating fries, or something, and THANK GOD I looked down and I SCREAMED when I realized it actually was roasted grasshoppers XDDDD they are very used in the south of the country, but, uh, yeah, no thanks.

Oh man, that sounds like a calory bomb o_O But it actually sounds good. *is a sucker for fried food*

So... it's like a sausage? Kinda? I mean, the part about being made of completely disgusting things but actually tasting kinda nice? *g* ... I think I wanna try it. XD

posted by [identity profile] moonix.livejournal.com at 05:46pm on 17/04/2007
Eeeeeeeeh those pitayas really look a little creepy. Like little red worms or something. *g*

Roasted grasshoppers, oh dear... but, who knows? Maybe, if you'd tried them without knowing what they were, you'd like them now! ;)

I'll try sending you some of that vegetarian bread spread, if it's possible... though... hmm... might be a bit difficult, since it becomes liquid very easily when it's warm. :/

Well, it doesn't look like a sausage... like I said, it's square. And well, depends on how you define "tasting kinda nice", because I really can't stand the conventional one (the one that's made of the disgusting things ;)). But yeah, maybe. Just that most kinds of sausage are probably still made of less disgusting things than liver cheese. *g* Wellll... if you wanna try it, you'll have to come here and visit me, I guess. XD

Meh... not surprised about the tongue as much as 'shouldn't knock it before trying it but I'm going to do it anyway!' lol.

I LOVE THAT FISH.

It actually looks like it'd be a great greeting card or something. Or shirt! Yeah!

GOLDFISH! Have you ever wondered why they're called gold fish when they're more orange than gold?)

Haha, I guess I squicked everyone accidentally anyways, huh? XD

Noooo idea. They're, uh, kinda gold-ish sometimes? In the right light? *scratches head* I guess gold has more cache than 'orange-looking fish, I guess XDD (and it's also gold in Spanish, mmm...)
