Oh, I just saw the latest Avatar episode, The Firebending Masters, and it was truly a thing of beauty, both stylistically and plot-wise. S3 has been sort of lazy, but episodes like this one, The Awakening and Day of the Black Sun pts. 1 and 2 save it.

Also, I've always been impressed and awed by the way the writers can mix oriental cultures in such a coherent and wonderful way - it makes every separate culture richer, in a way - but this episode took the cake. Mixing mesoamerican cultures (especially Aztec, Teotihuacan, Maya and Inca cultures) with cambodian and Hindi cultures? FOR THE MOTHERFUCKING WIN. And it was so seamlessly mashed up! So wonderful, truly.

MY AVATAR LOVE, IT IS FINALLY ALIVE AGAIN.

(Even if I still want to strangle half the people over at [livejournal.com profile] avatar_fans for being so stupidly juvenile and immature and fucking spammy.)

Oh god, that episode was one of my favorites. Stylistically so beautiful, and the Dragon Dance and the Mayan-like sun people... <3. I loved Zuko in this ep, too; he's reasserted himself and he's obviously not going to be a *complete* pushover. XDDD

Yay Avatar!

Oh, it truly was. The dance! The Epic Music of Awesome as the dragons 'bestow their teachings over them' (if there isn't a less dorky way of calling that) and OMG SO MANY AWESOME CULTURES. ALL TOGETHER. EEK.

Zuko was pretty awesome in this - just as angsty and emo-tastic as I like him, lol. He'll never be my favorite, but him being BFFs with Aang is making him go way up in my awesome scale, haha.

Hee, Avatar! I watched part of an Avatar marathon when I was at my cousins' house over Christmas break -- we had nothing to do, so we stumbled upon it and thought, "Oh, more bad anime," and watched it anyway. And it ended up being kind of AWESOME. :D

Quite honestly? I didn't like it. The solution was Deus Ex Machina (oh, yeah, we have this ruins of $advanced_culture right there!), and Aang's speech.. Of course, the lack of Tokka didn't do anything to meliorate my feelings.

I wouldn't exactly call it a bad episode, but after ToBS, I think I was slightly disappointed.
*shrugs*

YMMV.
