Okay. GUYS. I know I SAID I'd warn everyone when ZOMBIE DAY was approaching, but I literally didn't remember about it until five minutes before I started posting. UM. SORRY. I know that all of us that played along had a blast, though, so you should all join us next year. :D :D :D
On, uh, thursday? Friday? Anyway, one of those days, I watched The Banquet, which I'd been so excited to see about. Well. It didn't live up to my expectations. It was too long, and the pacing too slow to be fully enjoyable. It had wonderful cinematography, though, and amazing sets and costumes, so that helped, at least. I already knew that it was a (wire-fu)adpatation of Hamlet, and after a while I was almost asleep and had gave up on remembering the actual Chinese names and just started calling everyone by their Shakespeare counterparts. (cue screeches of WHAT. NO. POLONIUS DIES, DAMNIT. And Hamlet isn't in love with his mom-- okay, so maybe he sort of is. Freudian, that guy.) Ziyi Zhang played something than her usual warm, naive young girl, though, which is definitely good for her, but Ophelia was the best. And okay, Laertes was hot. And Hamlet was perfect in that just like the real Hamlet, all he does is brood. Lol.
Then again, I've always had an affinity for Ophelia. It's just that her death scene, this insane girl floating on the river with forget-me-nots twined in her hair and violets and a myriad of other flowers she picked herself covering her is probably one of the most gorgeous and heart-breakening scenes I've ever read. ♥ And there's also the small fact that both my grandma and mom are called Ofelia, lol.
And then on Saturday, and keeping with the YAY END OF THE WORLD theme, I went to see The Happening on cinema. HELLO DISAPPOINTMENT. I'm somewhat of a M. Night Shyamalan believer in that I like his least liked movies (Lady in the Water was a very simple and touching story about stories that just got marketed wrong, and The Village I LOVE because it was so fucking creepy and the fact that there was NO creepy thing was just brilliant, whatever people will say. Plus, the music was gorgeous and Joaquin Phoenix is hot. Shut up.) But, this one. UGH.
The acting was so BAD. Like, really, really bad. The dialogue was stilted and cringe-worthy. The 'BIG BAD' WAS RIDICULOUS. (Like, dude, really? REALLY? I don't want to spoil anyone, but... WTF.) It wasn't creepy, it wasn't ominous, it was just all so random. Like, it had SO MUCH potential and it all just fell apart. I'm especially shocked by John Leguizamo, I mean, he can act, and yet in here... no. Bah.
WHATEVER LIES IN STORE FOR US IF HE'LL DIRECT THE LIVE-ACTION AVATAR FILM. SHALL I WEEP ALREADY?
I re-read 1602: New World this morning, because I am obsessed and suddenly remembered that HEY, I DO own at least one comic with Tony Stark in it. I am quite amused at the thought of Tony being a tormented (and somewhat handicapped) Spaniard with Rhodes as his Moorish friend, lol. If you want to get technical, though, people should call him lord 'Hierro' not Iron, but still. ANTONIO HIERRO, FOLKS. THAT IS SO FUCKING HILARIOUS. XDDD
I did manage to, eh, aquire last week's Who, but haven't seen it yet. This situation is driving me nuts, as my flist says Midnight was awesome and I have no way of getting it right now. ARGH.

I think M. Night Shyamalan should just tell his story to a bunch of good writers, have them come up with a script, and then direct it, with someone else who can tell him when he's getting off track or something. Because I know what the big bad is, and I found that kind of interesting, even if the thing about them "targeting" big cities or whatever is laughable. It's the whole everyday thing becomes scary scenario, which Steven Moffat writes pretty well, come to think of it.
I need to read New World...
