Well I finally got to see the US version of Life on Mars. And, er, hello, suckage.

No, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it'd be, but mostly I kept wanting to yell WRONG WRONG WRONG SO SO WRONG at the screen all the time, and dude-that-is-supposed-to-be Gene Hunt SUCKED LIKE A VERY, VERY SUCKY THING. Ray and Chris!Impersonators also sucked, and were so very unfunny, only Annie is somewhat charming and yet it doesn't come close to real!Annie's awesome. And Sam is... well. WEIRD. Very much - there's something about John Simm being SMALL and yet all COCKY that works a lot for the character, this Sam is too tall, too, er, imposing, dunno.

Also, the changes made to the last bit of the episode in comparison to the UK pilot made it look so, so very creepy. Like, a lot so. I also can't see the original version's ending fitting in US television, it's too... daring? Bizzarre? I don't know.

What happens in the original ending?

Sam gets up on the roof of the police station, convinced that if he jumps he'll go back to 2008 - Annie goes after him and convinces him that this is real, that SHE's real, and they sort of stay there, for a while, just holding hands. It's a really poignant moment. Sam crying, hugging the tv, is my favorite LoM moment ever, and in here it was sort of embarassing, really. SIGH.

Sam would never, EVER even THINK about pulling a gun on a wee kid. NEVER. That's why it was so, so very creepy. o_O

I was quite stunned to read today that the US writers supposedly dealt better or more risky than the UK writers. Most people who criticised it are already fans now.

Mmm, I wouldn't go as far, really. Sure, it's nowhere near as awful as it could've been, but it'll never reach the levels of awesome of the UK version.

I finally finally watched the pilot of the UK Life on Mars and it was made of awesome! I have to find time to watch it, or at least try to find it online because it was so awesome! They had a marathon on BBC America but I had an event to go to that day. But yeah, the US version looks pretty shitty, but then, that's what happens when the US tries to remake classics like Kath & Kim, I seriously want to slap NBC for thinking they can remake that wonderful show.
