I'm really really behind on Doctor Who. As in, I still haven't watched the Christmas special. From 2008. Er. But I want to be caught up, mostly because, well, because I want to be in and be able to follow everyone else's posts, you know? So.

I'll be in England for the 5th season premier, which in theory sounds exciting (Who! In actual TV! On real time!) but I'm not sure I'll see it, as I don't think I could stomach an hour of the boy going OMG THAT LOOKS SO FAKE. (the boy, he is not a great sci-fi fan. I will train him though, in time. I'm already getting him Calvin & Hobbes, which can only translate into a love of comics later on. YES IT DOES IT TOTALLY DOES.) So yeah, don't know. Also I think I'll be at his parents' place that weekend, and I do want to give a good impression and perhaps that doesn't include jumping saying OMG IT'S SEVEN WE MUST WATCH WHO ALL TO THE SOFA NOW. That might be awkward.

So yeah. ANYWAY, case in point. SHOULD I WATCH THE SPECIALS Y/N? Is Matt Smith's hair crazier than Tennant's?

Meh, I thought the specials were crap, except for Waters of Mars. That's the only one worth watching.

Well, that and the End of Time. Which was dreadful, but if you like John Simm, you just can't miss it. It's one hilarious, unmissable trainwreck, it really is.

MMM. But should I SKIP them? I don't want to, but... ugh. And I sort of want to see the desert one (whichever it might be) because Michelle what's-her-name is hot. And the John Simm one because, well, John Simm, although I've seen pictures and that perm is awful. ew.

Anyway, let me guess. ALL WRITTEN BY RTD, Y/Y?

Can't wait for Moffat era.

If you ... firmly filter for good bits, all the specials have good bits! When it comes down to it, though, probably the only one you should see is End of Time; its Oh My God This Plot Device Is So Stupid-o-meter is really high, but John Simm and David Tennant do get a lot of properly wonderful little scenes together.

Nothing is crazier than Tennant's hair, but Matt Smith is kind of adorable. :D

I'm sort of looking forward for John Simm being back, but I've seen pictures, and that hair is truly appalling. But oh well. I decided to go in order, which will probably hurt my brain in the end, and so fair watched the Christmas special. I thought it was a very good episode of Power Rangers. Kept wondering when the yellow ranger was going to show up, really. Or Rita. SIGH.

Weirdly enough I AM excited for Matt Smith, that's sort of why I want to soldier through the specials. A change is quite needed at this point.

The specials aren't the finest episodes ever written, but they do have occasional good moments. And, if nothing else, they make you really want S5 and Matt Smith and all the Moffat-y goodness. ;-)

Ha, true. I did watch the Christmas special yesterday, and I kept cringing a lot and wishing for RTD to stop being so bloody melodramatic already. SIGH.
