I've just finished reading one of the most amazing books I've read in ages. Delirio, by Laura Restrepo. It's just, gah, wonderful and strange and unique and it made me gasp so much. It's about this literature professor, Aguilar, who goes in a short trip only to find a message on his recorder at his return telling him he's got to pick up his wife, Agustina, at a hotel. When he goes see her, she's lost her mind completely, and he stumbles through her 'recovery' as he tries figuring out her past and just what is it that happened to her in that weekend.
This is such a touching book. You can feel the characters, their voices, since it changes POV quite often, and Agustina's voice, especially, is deeply chilling. The prose is gorgeous, even when it takes some time to get used to it, since there are no quotation marks at all, there can be an entire conversation in one paragraph, and it balances between third and first person. It's definitely become one of my favorite books of all time. :))
In other news, apparently my folks won't be going to NYC after all. *headdesk* I spent all morning saving those lovely recs you gave me into my hard drive. *sigh* oh well, at least now I've lot's to read. XD
And I'm LAME SINCE I FORGOT ABOUT THE

Sirius/James - 'I'd die without you' - 271 Words
“You know I’d die without you,” Sirius says on October the second, 1978, straddling a chair backwards in the middle of the room, and James stops doing his tie’s knot to stare at him through the mirror.
“Padfoot…”
Sirius takes his hands to his head, covers his eyes and mutters Fuck over and over again, realizing his mistake. “Sorry, I’m sorry, I just-” He peeks through his fingers, sees James looking at him with his lip between his teeth, a hand buried in his hair (naked fingers, as of now. One of the rings hiding inside’s Sirius’ suit jacket will cover it soon).
“I know.” The ‘there are just so many memories’ goes unsaid, but both of them know the other one’s thinking about it, about drunken nights moving together, about laughs and bites to the earlobes.
James turns, fiddling with his formal shirt’s sleeve, and reaches him in three strides. Sirius rests his arms on the chair back, his chin resting on them in turn, and his neck strains as he tries looking at James in the eye. James opens his mouth, closes him again, sighs and leans down to kiss Sirius on the mouth, long and slow; and Sirius melts into it.
A mere second before they break apart, Sirius opens his eyes, engraves the memory into his brain for the many nights he’ll be alone, registers the sight, taste, scent, touch of the moment, and promises never to forget it. “This is goodbye,” James says when they break apart, and Sirius can only nod.
James marries Lily an hour and a half later, and he doesn’t look back.

How was your day? :))

I've never heard of that author, but from your description that book sounds amazing, I'll try to see it if I can find it in a library (because I am sadly broke, le sigh)

I don't really know if it's been translated (it's a Colombian book, btw), but if it is, you should really check it out. And ah, aren't we all? XD

Heh. Seriously. That was lovely. Such longing in a short little moment. Very nice. :)

Longing was just what I was aiming for, so I'm glad it came through. :) Thanks!

ps. How do you like being called? Just Amanda or something shorter?
(no subject)
Hm... Amanda is fine. I get all sorts of variations from friends though. Mostly, the first A gets dropped and I become 'Manda. Panda is a really common nickname, too... Just don't call me Mandy... ;)
(no subject)
Hehe, Panda is such a cute nickname XD

Seriously, though, this was lovely, and it works. I've never read a Sirius/James that makes me see the potential between them, but this is just-mmm, yes. ♥
I don't ship Sirius/James, I don't ship Sirius/James. . . ;D

Ugh, I don't ship them either, but De requested it, and it's her birthday, after al XD And now... I kinda liked it. NOOOOO!
Haha, thanks dear!

I'm into Sirius/James lately, even though I love R/S (maybe I'm just attracted to all of the angst?), and this is just lovely.

I've never really shipped S/J, although I ocassionally read the odd one-shot; but as you said, it's so angsty that it's actually fun to write. :)
