Title: Dust Bunnies
Rating: G
Word Count: 299
Author Notes: Written for prompt 7 (puddle jumpers) and 10 (spring cleaning) of [livejournal.com profile] wellymuck.

Day: | 1 | 2 | 4 | 11 |

“Do you still need these socks?” Sirius asks one April morning, wanting to say Do you still need me?, and yet the words get caught on his throat like the apple in Snow White’s. He and Remus are sitting on the floor, surrounded with dust (dust bunnies? He’d like to see one), broken mugs and old souvenirs of a school-filled life he sometimes can’t remember buying.

Remus barely glances his way, frowns at the socks he holds with his left hand. “No, not really. Just put it in the rubbish pile.” Sirius throws it, hoping Remus is actually talking about the silly mustard-colored striped socks, hoping he’s not as enthusiastic with this stupid spring cleaning because he wants a new life (already).

It smells like rain, with the windows thrown open like this, the dark clouds cracking and rustling with expectation for water and thunder and soaked earth, blooming flowers that get drowned on the puddles. “I feel like jumping in puddles,” says Sirius after a while, with an old, hole-filled shirt between his fingers, and Remus finally looks at him instead at through him.

He bites his lip. “We can do that, once the rain starts falling, if you want to.” It sounds like a peace offering; something to share that could be warmer and much more real than the thick silence between them.

“Is that a promise, Mister Lupin?” says Sirius, coy and flirtatious like he hasn’t been in months, and Remus smiles a bit.

“Maybe.” The keep on cleaning, humming together, and when the rain finally falls, they find themselves kissing with water filtering to their mouths, sticking their clothes to their bodies in the same way they stand close.

There’s still a spark between them, lingering deep, and Sirius sets out to find it again.

Oh, Sirius. *cuddles the poor unsure boy*

I love the hint of achyness in this, and then the hope at the end. It's all very lovely, even if my tired brain can't quite articulate it. :D

Very nice. I like how the tension here seems to be not about the usual post-Hogwarts spy mistrust, but more just about the awkwardness of becoming a grown-up. At least, that's my take on it.

Yep, that was just what I intended, they're supposed to be just out of school. Thanks, hon! :)

I can't explain why I like this so much! I just do. It's both visual and atmospheric, with the boys sitting on the floor sorting out their clothes and possessions, and then It smells like rain, with the windows thrown open like this, the dark clouds cracking and rustling with expectation for water and thunder and soaked earth, blooming flowers that get drowned on the puddles. To me, that conveys so well the feeling of being in a real room and looking out of the window there... Sorry, this is a bit incoherent. I like it, anyway! :D

^_^xx

Oh, no worries, incoherence from you makes me all giddy. :)) Thanks so much for the lovely comment, and hehe, that was my favorite part as well. XD

Awwie, poor Padsieboy. *cuddles him* Of course Remus still wants you, silly thing!

I love the blooming flowers drowning in puddles, the peace offering that sort of breaks the ice, and the last lines are so languid and tingling and hopeful. :) So lovely!

There's something about Sirius when he's nervous and uncertain that I just absolutely love. And guh! Kissing in the rain makes my knees wobbly...

It's the breaking of the sex god!Sirius cliche, I'd say, since I'm such a sucker for that as well XDD Thanks, hon!

E V I L! :P
I love spring and these lines were gorgeous. The smell of rain, the flowers, the cleaning to get a new life... everything.
The angsty puppy love fitted perfectly into the scenario! :)
Greta job, hun. :)

Haha, evil is my job description XD

This kinda made me appreciate spring a bit more, but oh, how I miss winter. Thanks, dear, you're far too nice. :))

Aww, that was gorgeous. I'm so glad you didn't write Snape. Because I thought Snape was evil? I mean, he killed Dumbledore and everything. Definitely evil behavior.

Well thank you, I'm so glad you liked it; but, uh, when was I going to write Snape? *is confused* (and so very late)

I'm so sorry to confuse you :)

The off the topic comment was a dare from [livejournal.com profile] lilian_cho, to post that silly comment at five journals on her flist.

I was only allowed to explain if asked.

Hehe, I think that was actually my idea XD I dared [livejournal.com profile] why_me_why_not a few days ago with the same thing, three comments completely unrelated to the post. Oh well, it was interesting. :)

Mmmmm. You always write drabble like they're just a snip from something else. This makes me think of them in a flat and being reaaaally uncomfortable, until it rains that Sirius can run around being Sirius :) Its really sweet, and kissing in the rain is just to diiiie for *_* Ah these two, always with the problems and then having to find them out again. Lovely use of the prompts, as always ^_~

(sorry it took me so long to comment, I've been reading your journal, I have! I've just not been able to comment on them all :( *sad* )

Maybe I should do a collection, or something, like, Drabbles: before and after (TA-TA-TAAAAA-TAN! *drum roll*) It'd be fun... Thanks, hon! And I want rain as well!! *suffocates from the heat* and I'd go and jump around just like Sirius. And it'd be good, yes.

(Don't worry, I haven't been able to comment pretty much anywhere as well, and I WANT TO READ YOUR STORY, I REALLY DO!!)

posted by [identity profile] pumpkin-pantry.livejournal.com at 01:11am on 21/04/2006
Ahaha you should! (I love the sound efects XD!!) I'd love it and read them over and over...uh like I don't already e_e;. Oh man, same here. I bet we're no where near as hot as you are, but I'm a baby and this is already too much heat XD!!

Yeah, I want to commen on everything, but theres just nooo tiiiime ;__; And HAH its ok! Its not that good, I don't want to subject you to the badness XD It needs to be re-done badly.
