I feel like I'm drowning in homework, ugh. I have so much to do. ;___;

I re-watched Girl in the Fireplace the other day, and I gotta say it's really sad that I watched it with my uber TEN/ROSE FOREVER AND EVER goggles last time I saw it, because it's one wonderful, brilliant episode and Ten/Reinette is all sorts of awesome, really. Reinette herself, actually, is all kinds of awesome - that regal air, and complete trust in herself. And really, apart from the wangstastical single emo tear of pain in Rose's side, she was pretty adventurous and well written, as to show she doesn't need the Doctor around to be herself. And of course, there's Mickey. Who is always fantastic. And Arthur the horse. lol.

I have also seen the first five episodes of Journeyman, and I'm really, really liking it. It's interesting and smart and has good characters and one of the best title sequences I've ever seen in my life and I'll be v. very sad indeed if it's cancelled. ;___; SO GO AND WATCH IT, KIDS. YOU DON'T WANT ME TO END UP SHOW-LESS.

And now I'll be off, probably to read some Ten/Reinette fic before I go back to doing homework. *criez*

ETA: OH MAN. Apparently, Mexico's the second to last country Atonement will be realeased in! (second only to Argentina!) DAMN IT. Okay, granted, it was premiered in the Morelia Cinema Festival in October (which I so didn't know), BUT STILL. MARCH. WHAT THE HELL. I'm so downloading it, I do need my James McAvoy fix.

So, I finished Wanted last night. Overall, I'm not all that pleased. The plot is: This loser of a guy, pushover Wesley Gibson, discovers his father was one of the supervillians that defeated all superheroes fifteen years ago and erased the memories of the caped times from the regular folks. His father's just been murdered, and it's his choice to step on into his place or continue living a boring and stifling life.

So the idea is wicked cool - the bad guys have won, and they've taken over the world. The execution, though, left much to be desired. Look, I've never minded violence in comics because for some reason it fits the medium fairly well, but this one took it to the extreme and to the point where it was ridiculous and gratuitous and it's all 'goregoregoregore' all the time. The characters, while interesting, are impossible to relate too, and the main character, Wesley, (based phisically on Eminem) starts as an unsympathetic guy at most and ends as a completely hatable man. Good plot, clumsy storytelling and an over-the-top quality that's not even ironic or liberating - it's just gruesome. Dunno. All I've read from Mark Millar is his work in Ultimate X-Men and to some extent Ultimate Spider-Man and that was fairly good, if not genious. *shrug* I'm still watching the movie becuause duh James McAvoy, but in all honesty, I don't think I'll mind it if it's just a looooose interpretation. The characters were too annoying to want to see them in the big screen.

I browse through a lot of cooking blogs almost daily (even if I haven't had the chance to bake anything for weeks, oh my), and I've always been mystified by something: Do people honestly just have soup on winter? o_O Maybe it's just a me thing, but my mom makes soup almost daily, especially what we call 'sopa de pasta' (you know, letter soup, non-canned actually decent spaggethi 0s, conchitas, bolitas; the drill) because I dig it big time and that was all she could get me to eat as a child. So it might be the height of summer and we'll be eating soup. And it'll be warm, because my dad likes his soups to be BOILING and he sneakily goes and warms it extra time.

Am I really the only one to do this? ;____; I love soups. In any kind of form, I love them dearly and when I was little I would wonder why, oh why Mafalda didn't like them, lol.

I didn't do anything remotely Death of the Day-y today. ME FOR THE FAIL, Y/Y? I dunno. My father must have Issues with my granfather because we've never been to see his grave. And my great-grandma and uncle were both incinerated and their ashes are in churches so that rather takes away some of the day's glamour. I am trying to write a 'calavera' for the Doctor (geek? Me? NEVER!), but it's not coming right, ARGH.

So I haven't done much today but troll this site. It's sort of a vocabulary test in which every single word you get rice means that the sponsors give 10 grains of rice to empoverished countries. I'm not sure if that's really going to happen, but oh well, it is quite entertaining, and I've 'won' 9000 grains of rice so far. It's got 50 levels of dificulty, and I'm ashamed to say I've been going from 25 to 36 but not farther. Clearly, I need a dictionary. (altough they're actually pretty tricky words...)

In comic-related news, I started reading Wanted by Mark Millar because James McAvoy will star in the movie based on it (I KNOW. I'M SO LAME.), and I'm sort of torn right now. I'll say more once I've finished it. But the main character is drawn disturbingly a lot like Eminem. o_O

And I haven't watched either last week or this week's SPN. *ducks flying objects* (I did watch Heroes, though, and I headdesk-ed at so many people doing so many stupid things.)

Also, I'm sick and tired of hotmail not allowing me to get my LJ notifications. I don't want to change accounts, I've had that one for too long, but I'm considering of getting a yahoo one. Or something, dunno.

Well, we didn't end up going downtown for the mural-watching class because we were lazy, lol. But really, it's a half hour bus ride from my college (no way I'm taking my car, there's no parking space anywhere in there) and I had classes before and after that one.

I did watch The Last King of Scotland yesterday, and was blown away by it. It was optimistic and colorful at times, and raw and painful and powerful at others, particularly at the last half. As everyone, I was floored by the acting, which were superb. Forrest Whitaker deserved his oscar, no doubt (what a stunning performance he gave! He became Idi Amin), but I am somewhat shocked at how little recognizment James McAvoy got out of the film, considering what a solid interpretetion he gave. Nicholas as a character, actually, was surprisingly well-developed for a fictional character in a movie based in real events, and it was rather an interesting point of view.

As I said, this movie's just really, really powerful - it strikes a chord, of sorts, and I ended up suitably traumatized and shaken but pleased. Another surprising detail: The photography was quite beautiful. And let us be shallow for a moment: Mr. McAvoy looked all sorts of good. *cough*

Aaaand now I gotta be off because I've homework to do, ugh.

Yesterday was [livejournal.com profile] sarie_gamgee's birthday!! I was too busy to say anything, though. SORRY. I will write something for you, dear, it'll just take me a bit. Still. So much love for you, Sarie. ♥ ♥

I--I hadn't seen a movie in nearly a month. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME. Is it really me, anyway? Have I been swaped with aliens? How, how is it possible.

I saw Becoming Jane yesterday, and I have to say it was completely charming. The camera work was real good, and there were some really lovely shots. The music was lovely as well - I might have to get part of it. The cinematography was good, but with all the, uh, potential, the sets had, it could've been used better (I am thinking of Pride and Prejudice, which had an astounding photography). Oh, and the acting was wonderful! I was... quite dubious, of Anne Hathaway as Jane Austen, but her accent was actually somewhat decent and she gave a good performance. James McAvoy, on the other hand, was just a joy to watch. Oh, he was so good and cute and I like how he gets inside character's skins - he truly was Tom Lefroy. (Who, by the way, was such a well rounded character - I didn't expetc that).

So yes, I liked it lots - it was hopeful and then not and while it still felt a bit on the fantastic side, it still felt quite real. So yes, it draws rather a bit too much from Pride and Prejudice* and it is in no wan an biographical film but it was still pretty good and I smiled throughout it.

So yeah, I'm a BIT obsessed with James McAvoy and IT'S ALL [livejournal.com profile] mellafe's FAULT. Or his own fault for being so cute AND such a good actor, I guess. AND NOW I WANT TO SEE HIM IN A FILM WITH DANIEL BRÜH. BECAUSE HOW AWESOME WOULD THAT BE, MY TWO CELEBRITY CRUSHES TOGETHER?

Also, have a meme:

What would you say are the trademarks of my writing? What themes or quirks or turns of phrase have you noticed? What is it that makes a story by me -- well, a story by me?

*Which I'm finally considering to read because it's getting embarassing to like, be the only one left to do so. Um. It's just that I've never really liked classics...

I've realized something really weird about State of Play. Sadly, because I'm shallow like that, it has nothing to do with the plot. And everything to do with John Simm. While I'll admit he's not the hottest man in the universe, I do find him fairly attractive and yet, for the life of me I can't think of him as good looking while he's wearing the guise of Cal McCaffrey. Maybe it's the beard? Maybe it's the godawful clothes? Maybe it is that his character, while well constructed, isn't really all that lovable? Perhaps. Because I always wanted to hug Sam Tyler real tight and I wanted to do unspeakable things to the Master, SO. I'm conflicted.

Maybe it's the fact that he's surrounded by such handsome men as James McAvoy. Then again, that never distracted me while he was onscreen with David Tennant (in fact, I liked him more when he was onscreen with Tennant, but that's not here nor there) Anyway, I just found out BRAD PITT of all people will be playing Cal in the remake. LOL LOL LOL. How incredibly bad-casted is that, anyway? XDD

In any case, I'm up to ep. 4 and I'm waiting oh so anxiously for the last episodes to be uploaded. *bites nails*

It's also come to my attention that I've read quite a lot of books in the last two months. o_O )Considering I read like, three books in the entire last semester (I KNOW, I KNOW), this is pretty pretty good and hopefully, I'll keep it up. At least until I, you know, END UP POOR from buying so many books, lol.
