I went into an Artic Monkeys download frenzy yesterday, and now I have most of their b-sides. I can't get over how much they've improved over time, it's so very noticeable. I mean, I started to like them along with everyone and their mothers when they first started (remember? When they didn't even have an album out and they were just a myspace craze phenomenon), but it didn't last long and in the end, their songs were too alike and their titles better than their music. This new album though, and some of their b-sides, show such an amazing growth as musicians. PLZ PLZ PLZ LET THEM COME FOR A CONCERT HERE. PLZ.
In other news, I'm watching Goong and I'm finding it absolutely charming. I'm on ep. 6 right now, and I'm still all hyped out about it, no matter how silly it can be at times - it just makes me laugh a lot, so. Plus, the dude that plays Yool or Yul or however it's spelled is hot hot hot. And Chae-kyung is so so cute *g* I so suck at remembering Korean names. I used to be the same with Japanese ones until I started studying it, I think, but still. Then again it was a pain to study Prehispanic names while studying Literature in high school because there's no easy way of remembering names like Huitzilopotchli, in all honesty. *shrug*
I made chocolate chip cookies today! I'd missed baking. :3 I still haven't achieved The Perfect Cookie, but they were still better than my last batch.

And then I heard the salsa version of "Dancing Shoes."
And then I saw the video for "Brianstorm" and the song blew me away.
And then I found their first CD at the library and I did not play that thing over so many times.
And then I played their 2nd CD streaming pre-sale at Spinner while finishing essays I had procrastinated on.
And then I bought Favourite Worst Nightmare.
And then I started reading every article I could get my hands on.
That is my Arctic Monkeys fandom story.

OMG I WANT TO SEE THAT SALSA VERSION. Dancing Shoes is definitely my favorite song of their first album, so. *g*
Mmm, articles, I should really get to it... *grabby hands*

ooh, I'd give you the salsa version if I didn't record it onto cassette tape (me is low-tech sometimes). Oh wait, I know where you can hear it! here. haaa check that site out. The story was that the people who recorded the CD asked the Monkeys if it was okay. They're kind of protective of their songs, but they heard this version and liked it enough to give an okay. I remember reading in a recent article that the drummer was up a bit late practicing his drumming to that version...
The Monkeys were skeptical about the environmental effectiveness of Live Earth. I know about the special lights and tickets and stuff Live Earth used. But the carbon-neutral purchases the concert used to offset lighting and artist transportation expenses? That's a bit too much to offset, in my opinion. This festival does it better.
Here's a nice article with lead singer Alex Turner and another Sheffield songwriter. I like how laid-back all of the Monkeys are in their interviews, kind of amazed at the whole thing...I'd like to meet them someday and just hang out eating on a sofa or something.
oh, and finally, this performance.

It's actually a pretty silly Cinderella-style story, set in an alternate reality, so to say, in which Korea still has a constitutional monarchy. Chae-kyung, a normal girl, suddenly finds herself enganged to the Crown Prince thanks to a pact her grandfather did with the late emperor. She agrees to marry to save her family from bankrumpcy, and the prince, Shin, agrees to marry because he wants the freedom that would come with a new marital status and because he's bitter that his old girlfriend, prima ballerina Hyo-Rin dumped him when he proposed to her.
So basically it's all about Chae-Kyung adapting to life in the palace and seeing how hard it is, aside from having lots of (toned-down) political intrigue, since Shin's cousin, Yool, just came back from England after 14 years to reclaim the throne that rightfully should have been his.
As I said, it's very silly and all, but it's oh so cute and so so funny and hooking. XD
