I went to see Watchmen on monday! And then failed to blog about it, lol. But! It is AWESOME. EEEEH. I really really loved it, it was quite thrilling to see how it translated to the screen. Is it without faults? Of course not, but you can't really expect perfection from this movie. In all, it was really well done, it looked fantastic and the changes made overall sense. The opening credits were just gorgeous and a little piece of art on their own, the music and score were really atmospheric and oh, the photography, it was as detailed as the comic, which is definitely a good thing.
Most of the acting was really good, especially from Jackie Earle Haley, who sort of become Rorschach, and Patrick Wilson, which was completely convincing as Dan - Dan is my favorite character in the comic, you see, mostly because he's such an unrepentant loser. ♥ Jon and Ozymandias were played fantastically (Jon, especially, was a bit heartbreakening) and JDM was AMAZING as the Comedian, he gave me the creeps. AS HE SHOULD. Malin Akerman, boy, she really can't act, but my God does she look like Laurie. o_O But hey, at least Laurie got a BIT more to do than in the comic, which always bothered me. The new ending... made sense in a way? I don't know, I'm one of those people that liked the giant alien whatchamacallit, as sort of lame as it was? ER.
The movie is violent, though. It sort of glorifies violence in a way not even the comic did, for all that it's still a violent graphic novel, but all those crushed bones, and bulletholes... It didn't sit quite well with me, but at the same time all the fights were really visually impressive
Things that irked me a bit: I didn't like that Rorschach took his mask off just before Jon killed him - now that I think about it, I can't even remember if that was in the comic or not (and I just re-read it a couple of months ago, wtf, self?), but, well. It's his face, isn't it? AND YET it was amazing because that moment was such a glorious piece of acting, sooooo. I don't know. The last scene was horrible. I mean, it was even horrible in the comic (and at least Dan didn't have a mustache this time around...) but it felt especially tacked on after Dan's breakdown in the snow. The sex scene... it went on too long. Way too long.
But other than that I truly loved it, and I really do have to go see it again - and, of course, get the extended super shiny dvd edition. :3
I've been listening a lot to the Yeah Yeah Yeah's new album, It's Blitz! and I absolutely love it ♥. It is a bit weird how much this band has changed over the years, though - IsIs was really loud, much more like Fever to Tell, and yet this one feels more alike to Show Your Bones, in that it's more melodic and soft, but much more upbeat and Dance-ish, if that makes any sense, lol. (SYB for me will always be Southern lullabies, for some reason. This one has a hint of lullabies as well, but happier lullabies) In any case, I've been listening over and over for the past two days.

Yep. That's from the comic.

It fills me with this huge, calm, energetic feeling. And I know two of those adjectives are completely at odds with each other, but somehow the album manages it!

Even if I don't comment lately I read most of your entries. You inspired me a little to go to Spain for half a year. I even got an Erasmus scholarship for Valencia. :)
I'm excited but yet nervous and I fear the homesickness and missing my family and my boyfriend. Reading your entries is like a preperation for september. ha
